New Resistance 2 trailer shows the “Last Hours”

I wasn’t overly impressed with “Resistance: Fall of Man.” That is not to say that I didn’t enjoy the game. It was extremely polished and loads of fun. However, I found the story to be a bit lacking. I never really felt a connection to the protagonist, Nathan Hale, because the story was told through a third party. Thankfully, Insomniac Games has decided to change things up a bit in “Resistance 2.” The Burbank-based studio has decided to ditch the narrator and focus the single-player campaign on Hale’s inner struggle against the Chimeran virus.

See the latest, after the jump.

Alright, now that I have pissed off at least a few Sony fanboys, I will attempt to avoid their vitriol by showing the latest trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel to the alien-eradicating PlayStation 3 exclusive. However, after sitting on your can for 24 hours, it would probably be beneficial if you got a little exercise first. Don’t want to exercise?  OK, all you have to do is jump once.

I don’t know why, but I suddenly have the urge to drive to Gooch’s Gas. Perhaps it is the incredibly cheap fuel. Or, maybe it is because that sign has been in almost every single “Resistance 2″ video ever released. Seriously, that name is permanently etched into my consciousness. It is too bad the game is set in the past or I would totally rush down to Gooch’s for some 27 cent gas. Anybody got a solid design for a time machine?

The trailer had a very cinematic feel to it. The music, the images of brutality and the sweet sound of Hale’s voice all help create perhaps the best “Resistance 2″ trailer I have seen to date. There wasn’t much information about the story or new modes, but it did have tons of explosions, gunfire and blood. Plus, that one dude got cut in half. Yea, I thought it was pretty awesome too.

The trailer also showed off some of the title’s more formidable baddies. “Resistance” had its fair share of impressive nasties. I can’t begin to describe how much trouble I had dispatching the widow makers. Actually, I can. They were hard as hell.

Insomniac isn’t going to make it any easier in “Resistance 2.” Hale will tangle with the returning Goliath, as well as the building-sized Leviathan, which resides in the campaign’s Chicago map. The trailer also showed off another potential boss, which appeared to be a mammoth spider. That thing looked like it could gobble multiple tanks in a single swallow.

Luckily, Hale will have some kick-ass weaponry at his disposal. Improvements have been made to old favorites like the Auger and the Bullseye, while the Splicer and the Magnum revolver will make their series debut. The former shoots saw blades, while the latter fires explosive bullets. Though, if you just want to mow down everything in sight, you might want to stick with the minigun (as seen in the above footage).

“Resistance 2,” which is a PS3 exclusive, will invade the North American market on Nov. 4. The game will feature a more Hale-centric single-player campaign, squad-based online multiplayer for up to 60 individuals and an 8-player cooperative campaign. In a previous interview with Joystiq, Insomniac community manager, Brian Intihar, confirmed that the co-op will be drop-in/drop-out and “will dynamically scale depending on the number of people playing at the same time.” Essentially, more human-controlled soldiers means more on-screen Chimera.

The “Resistance 2″ multiplayer beta has begun, so feel free to gloat in the comments section if you have gotten an early taste of the Chimeran-killing action.
