If there’s anything gamers have in common outside actual games, its gadgets. Well apparently, not all of your gadgets love you back. Go figure.
I tend to worry about things. Lots of things. I worry that my husband works too much and is going to have a heart attack. I worry that I am going to screw up my kids. I worry about getting wrinkles. Now I have a new
worry to add to the list. I might get a brain tumor from using my cell phone.
Great.
Hitting the jump on this article is 98% certified safe.
According to US scientists’ warnings, the potential link between mobile telephones and brain cancer could be similar to the link between lung cancer and smoking. That is a pretty serious warning.
Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Caner Institute said, “recalling the 70 years that it took to remove lead from paint and gasoline and the 50 years that it took to convincingly establish the link between smoking and lung cancer, I argue that we must learn from our past to do a better job of interpreting evidence of potential risk.”
Doc and I got new cell phones a few months ago, and they came with an entire book warning of the potential risk of brain tumors and cancers from prolonged use of said phone. I flipped through the book, discarded it into a pile and started calling people on my cool new phone. Now I am wondering why I, the self proclaimed worrier, didn’t take more serious note of this warning.
There is no doubt that we as a society are addicted to our phones and gadgets. Cell phones are so ingrained into our lives these days. I use mine constantly. I email, text, use the calendar and talk a LOT!
Am I going to ignore all of this new evidence and continue chatting away?
Are you?
In 30 years are we all going to have huge tumors on the side of our heads that we use to talk on our beloved cell phones?
I’m sure many of us would just switch to the other ear, but I am worried.
I don’t think I can pull off wrinkles AND a growth on the side of my head.

I was wondering how long it would take for stuff like this to stand out more than it used to.
…what about the 2%?
There’s a 2% risk of getting something harmful from this article!!
or we will be talking via brain waves by then a la Fringe
I remember this worry back when cell phones were the size of bricks. I don’t think it bothered anyone back then and i dont know it will change anything now. There have been multiple studies by Euro scientists with interesting results. But all in all if you do get cancer just sue. Despite the warnings im sure you can still get a nice settlement. Death and whatnot are just afterthoughts really.
People have been worrying about the harmful effects of cell phones since they were the size of a baby elephant. Now that phones are “Zoolander small”, we are just starting to understand more about the waves in question. Personally I don’t think they are harmful enough to actually KILL somebody. I did read that phones and such could be more harmful to sperm production though, and technically that’s killing a potential somebody, but eh, phones are the least of my sperm’s worries.
Ughh. I said too much again, didn’t I?
On the subject of that extra 2 percent from the article, my glass of RC fell off the top of my computer desk and landed on my head right as I hit the jump. Spooky.
I’m guessing people that drink lead paint and smoke arent to concerned.
You want to know what I think?
I thi-
Sorry… Phone call…
I knew that since years. Call me paranoid but If I have more than 3 visitors I ask them to swich off their phones or leave them in the car and I allow absolutely no cell-phone, bluetooth or televisions inside my sleeping room. The good thing is that the radiation from cell phones has no big radius…just keep it a few metres away from your body when you are at home-that reduces the risks quite a lot.
Good thing that I don’t have a cell phone
There has been a great deal of research into the harmful effects of mobile phone radiation and so far all evidence point to there being no real risk.
Anecdotal evidence over people experiencing a hot head or ear after prolonged use has been proven to be nothing more than the result of holding something close to your head and trapping heat, its not “Frying your brain” like many scare mongers like to imagine.
Before you perpetuate this unscientific opinion perhaps you should ease your worries and read some of the leading resarch?
Hope this helps.
