Zombie Uprising may just be the sleeper hit of the year.  It’s got zombies, chainsaws and zombies getting chainsawed.  It rocks. The only problem? You won’t find it on any store shelf. You won’t find it on PSN or Xbox Live. You can’t download it from Steam.

Hail to the king, baby. 

Zombie Uprising is a mini game within Saint’s Row 2 and it is worth the price of admission all by itself.  While browsing the local “Adult” Store within the game, I came upon an arcade cabinet for a game called Zombie Uprising.  Half expecting some crappy flash game, I decided to check it out.  Boy, was I wrong.

Zombie Uprising uses the Saint’s Row engine.  So basically, you run around as some biker looking dude, shooting wave after wave of zombies.  You have to survive six rounds of zombies, while trying to keep six ladies alive each round.

Not only do you get to shoot hundreds of zombies in the face with various weapons including AK-47 rifles, pistols, shotguns and even a Gatling gun type minigun. A friggin Gatling gun!  You also get access to melee weapons like sledgehammers, machetes, baseball bats, grenades and even a chainsaw!  A friggin chainsaw!

This is a game in and of itself. It should be released on PSN and XBL. I would seriously pay five to ten bucks on Xbox Live to get this.  After discovering this game, I played it exclusively for about two hours…

Why wasn’t there a game like this in GTA IV?  This game is fantastic.  There are a wide variety of zombies, with different animations.  They’ll set themselves on fire and when they run into other zombies, they’ll catch on fire too… It’s amazing.  If you have Saint’s Row 2 and haven’t played it, stop what you’re doing and play it.  If you’re on the fence about Saint’s Row 2, now you have a reason to get it.

And you can play it cooperatively.  Icing on the cake.

I give Zombie Uprising a 9.5 out of 10.  Game of the Year.
