ItsNotAReview: Dead Space (spoiler-free with survival tips!)

Dead Space, at its core, is one of the most breathtakingly frightening video games I have ever played. unlike other ItsNotAReview’s I’ll start at the bottom line and work my up.  This game is frickin’ fantastic… the best I have played so far this year.  Find out why, after the jump.

Story – “A”

In the future, apparently, we’ll run out of natural resources on our own planet, forcing our species to get its necessary stuff by cracking open other worlds.  To do this, we’ll be sending out these “Planet Crackers” to literally break them into huge chunks.  The problem is that one of these ships is having some problems, and your team of 3 people has been sent to investigate.  After a pretty rough docking with the planet cracker you find yourself in pure hell, wearing what appears to be a burlap outfit bedazzled with pieces of iron. Once on the ship, you come to the realization that something on this ship has gone terribly wrong, and nothing is what it first appears to be.

Throughout the story, the plot twists and turns its way through a maze of the dimly-lit passageways of the space ship called the “Ishimura.”  The vessel is so big that you have to take a tram from one area to the next, which is where each chapter begins and ends.  In an attempt to keep this entire article as spoiler-free as possible, I can say no more about the story itself.  I just can’t risk ruining this awesome game for you.
