And when I say it’s done a Rock Band, I mean that it’s got a lot of broken launch peripherals. Activision has been hit with a plague of complaints from the first lot of buyers of Guitar Hero: World Tour from microphones to drums and more.
Guess I know which one I’ll be sticking on my letter to Santa. Hit the jump for more details!
Over on Red Octane’s customer support site there’s a stack of various issues that World Tour owners have been reporting. Everything from wonky microphones to drum and guitar failures is there; even 360 game issues have been posted. As with Rock Band, there are also issues with strum bars breaking after a short period of use.
There’s also been some concern over the pressure-sensitive drums. In World Tour, you can adjust the volume of your beats depending on how hard you thwack the pads. Well, in theory anyway: gamers have complained that the pads are either too sensitive or not sensitive at all, being far too loud for a gentle tap or only reacting the hardest thrash. This seems to have become ridiculously widespread an issue as Red Octane released this statement:
We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues. We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages. While we believe that this was an isolated manufacturing issue, we are stepping our efforts to randomly test our drum kit controllers so customers can be assured they work properly. In the event any consumers do experience problems with their drum kit controllers associated with sensitivity issues, Activision will soon be offering a drum tuning kit that will enable players to fully optimize their drums.
Hmmm. They “believe” that the issue affects early models only? If they’re so sure of the early models being defective, why didn’t they withdraw them from sale and sell the proper working ones only? This sort of thing should really spring up during QA testing and if measures weren’t put in place then it’s a stern lesson learned for Activision, who’ll have a good few angry gamers breathing down their necks.
That said, Rock Band did suffer from a similar issue and mistakes can be made. You can be thankful anything’s being done at all, although the phrase ‘power to the people’ springs to mind.
Has anything happened to you though? Have you had any issues with your Guitar Hero: World Tour instruments? Let us know!
