PixelJunk Monsters is one of the PSN’s biggest tragedies. It’s an utterly fantastic little strategy game with a lot of artsy charm about it; blame that on the lo-fi graphics and the piddly-poddly soundtrack. Unfortunately, I think it’s the mixture of both its “unique” style and the fact that it’s really bloody hard that’s put a lot of people off of playing it and as a result it’s become criminally ignored.
Still, for everyone who has played it (and still does) there’s some great news around the corner. Hit the jump for all the info.
On the 30th of October there will be an utterly massive Monsters patch released onto the PSN, available when you start up the game as per usual. The features list looks to be stonking, as detailed below:
- Difficulty Settings: As we revealed two months ago Monsters developer Q-Games would incorporate adjustable difficulty settings for those finding the ride a little too rough. If you’re finding it too easy, you can even make it harder. But why would you want to do that?
- Tower Menu Fixes: One thing I really, really hated was the fact that the last option you selected in the tower-building menu remained as the one to be selected next time you opened it. Which meant I accidentally sold a lot of towers. Now though, you can choose whether you want upgrading or selling to be the default option when you open the menu.
- YouChoob* Support: As with PixelJunk Eden you’ll be able to record up to 10 minutes of yourself playing the game and either upload it to YouTube or export it to the XMB.
All looking good so far, but there’s more features! Well, two of them. Which I couldn’t fit on this page. No worries though, they’re waiting for you a little bit further on; just a click away.
*In Scots slang, a ‘choob’ is a moron. Now you can go around calling people that and they’ll be none the wiser.

Awesome news! I love pixel junk!! Just a shame this patch could not have been delivered a little earlier, say before the majority good games of the year came out in a two month window
I don’t know about you but my wallet is not big enough for all the titles that are hitting at the moment. At least the patch is free, isn’t it?
@TR0YJ: Yes, the patch is free.
That’s good news, because I can’t get anyone else that I know into the game because of the high amount of difficulty in picking it up and an even higher amount trying to play it. It’s such a good game, too…
Thanks Yamster, keep up the good work.
