Nathan Hale returns to the battlefield on November 4

September 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Big news from the Sony camp today as the company has finally tagged a firm release date on Insomniac Games’ “Resistance 2.” Rather than type some witty, drawn-out introduction, I figured I would jump right into the news. Well, right after that abbreviated, unimaginative intro.

Hit the jump before I start rambling.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that the follow-up to “Resistance: Fall of Man” will invade North American shores on November 4. Protagonist Nathan Hale returns in the sequel to the PS3 launch title, as he once again attempts to fend off the advancing Chimeran forces. However, this time, the fight is taking place on American soil. Luckily for Hale, he will have the insanely-awesome Splicer at his disposal. Aside from the new weaponry, the game will also feature an improved singleplayer campaign, an eight-player co-op campaign and online multiplayer matches for up to 60 people.

Those individuals whose wallets survive the month of October can also grab the “Resistance 2″ Collector’s Edition. The package, which will set you back $79.99, includes a Chimeran action figure, a hard-cover “Resistance 2″ art book and a bonus DVD stuffed with extra content. The Hybrid figure looks pretty cool, but I think a Leviathan statue would have been much cooler. The collector’s edition will also ship with a special cover art selected by gamers. I must say, the gaming community chose wisely. It is days like this that restore my faith in humanity.

SCEA was also kind enough to remind gamers that an open beta for the sci-fi first-person shooter is set to launch in early October. There are multiple ways to gain entry, but if you want “premier access,” you are going to have to reserve the game at Gamestop or pony up the greenbacks ($24.99) for the year-long Qore subscription. Downloading the third episode of the monthly program will also provide guaranteed access, but according to Sony, players that choose this route will have to wait to “play the Public Beta after the premier access period.”

Alright, now that I have you salivating over the approaching release of “Resistance 2,” I must crush your excitement by reminding you that November does not begin tomorrow.  I would try to console you, but I have never been very good at that. For instance, if I said that there will be a plethora of games to play in the mean time, it might remind you that you will be in debt within the next few months. Perhaps I should stop writing now.

I don’t want you to think that I am saying this cause I am a fanboy, But I really didn’t like the multiplayer they were showing at PAX. I wanted to go to everything at PAX with an open mind. So , Lono and I went to play the multiplayer and we got in and spend about 25 mins playing it. Lono and I felt like we were running around forever looking for something to kill. Once we finally found people to kill , I somehow managed to crash the game. I know this was a Beta build but this game comes out in November!!! I was surprised that this was the game that PS Fanboys rave about. It was interesting based on the fact that other games coming out about the same time look and play a lot better.( Gears 2 , Fallout 3 , Left 4 Dead and even LBP). I personally think the PSP Resistance game was incredible , and I wish i still had my PSP. I will probably pick up the PSP 3000 for that game.
