Battlefield: Bad Company was released on June 23, 2008. It came with a nice update to the Battlefield series, with fully destructable environments and a great new multiplayer game type called gold rush. It also came with HUGE problems, such as no team, proximity or in-vehicle proximity chat, an arbitrary cap on knife kills, rampant team killing, obnoxious boosters and shoddy hit detection.
Almost three months later, I want to know, when is DICE gonna get off their duff and fix these problems?
Man, I love me some Battlefield. Before Too Human sucked all of my free time away, for reasons I’ve explained countless times elsewhere on this site and in our podcast, I played Battlefield: BC constantly. As a result, I became somewhat of a Battlefield apologist, making excuses for why the games huge problems didn’t detract from the overall greatness that I believed the game had in spades. Now that I’ve been somewhat removed from the game for the last few weeks, I wanna know when these problems are going to be fixed.
Most of us had hoped that the Conquest patch that arrived a couple of weeks ago would address some of these problems. It didn’t and I’m left scratching my head as to why?
The biggest reason I’m so dumfounded is because DICE, generally, has been known for it’s constant patching of it’s Battlefield games, especially on the PC. Battlefield 2 on the PC is still getting updates, and that game has been out for years.
While I’ve left BF:BC for a couple of weeks, I fully intend on getting back into it soon, but honestly, if DICE isn’t going to support it with updates and MP tweaks, why bother, especially with this years Christmas crop of games on the horizon? How bout some proximity chat? How bout team speak between squad leaders??? Throw me a frickin’ bone here DICE…
DICE, where my patches at?
[Update] – Looks like there’s a new map pack coming out, along with some tweaks to the game play. Looks like the only thing thats really getting fixed is the dog tag lag, which is good. No word on an enhanced team chat, proximity chat, a fix for respawning in front of a teammate and getting immediately TK’d by accident because your teammate is firing his gun, crappy hit detection… yadda, yadda, yadda.
Here’s the link to the newsletter.

Update on the EA website yesterday
Well, looks like the knife lag will be fixed, but no news on any new enhanced chat support…
Good find Infneon!
Wow it is about time , but it might be a little too late to repair the burn it gave me. I dont know that I am willing to get back into the company.
Hope a lot of this gets fixed soon. Since they are going to release the trophy patch soon I am going to be getting into this game hardcore. Very fun game I rented it, but never ended up buying it. Once the trophy patch is released and maybe some of these issues are fixed I may consider buying instead of renting again.
Too Little, Too late.. This game has so much potential but it was hidden under a huge amount of issues that were mentioned above. Sold this game to get Disgaea 3 cheaper and I do not regret it. Looking forward to some GOOD shooters that actually are supported.
Played the game a lot when it came out and I almost never had any problems at all with game. The team chat would be nice instead of just being able to talk to your squad only. The hit detection had always seemed off in the game, even in the single player but after awhile I got use to it.
Also lucky never to run into someone on a rampant team-kill. I’ve got TK’d plenty of times in the game but never found someone abusing it. Best thing for that would be to set a cap of TK’s in a match and then boot the person (5-6kills per match)
Bad Company is a poor mans call of duty 4 in my honest opinion. The difference is Bad Company shipped with problems and cod4’s patches created problems. If BC had gotten some fixes with Conquest I’d go back to it, but never now with Gears 2 and Left4Dead coming out.
