Guitar Hero III Guinness World Record hits a snag…

The Guitar Hero III Guinness World record business is a serious one, with wanna-be rockers practicing their skillz on plastic guitars for hours every day.  Why do they do it?  For the YouTube fame?  Maybe, but if you ask the Hardcore world record seekers, they’d say that they do it for the chicks…

I’m totally kidding about the chicks part.  They do it for nerd infamy, of course.  Recently, GHIII’s Dragonforce track “Through the Fire and Flames” has been ground zero in the assault for nerd immortality.  The battle has been raging for quite some time.  One nimble fingered nerd would overtake another, in a never ending race to the bottom,  to see who would get into the Book. The Book, of course, is the Guinness World Record Book.  Except this time, after a strange set of circumstances, the unthinkable happened…

The two master nerds, Jeff Shanky of Hoboken New Jersey and Chris Challkney of Anaheim California ended up with the same score of 892,012 points on Through the Fire and Flames on Expert.

A tie.

In an unbelievable twist, the two Guitar Hero maestros achieved the same perfect score on the fabled Dragonforce song.  After much wrangling, hand wringing and nerd rants, a decision was made as to how to break the tie. At first, a Guitar Hero face off was considered, but quickly scrapped, as a common Youtube account could not be settled upon to share the glory. A second option, a gasoline fight, was quickly scrapped after watching the first ten minutes of Zoolander.  A third, more controversial option was considered and quickly agreed upon.
