Those bracketed comments are for you folks Stateside who’ll have never heard of Frankie Boyle. For anyone who’s watched the Dave channel in the UK, this is purely a cause for celebration; ole Frankie boy is hosting the Golden Joystick gaming awards in London next month.

If you’ve never watched his Have I Got News For You appearances or any episode of Mock The Week ever (and if you haven’t then my opinion of you has just plummeted vastly) then here’s a quick bit of info: Frankie Boyle is a very funny man. He’s Scottish and hence is funny (so you know where I get it from, naturally). Rather than take the high road with witty punchlines or anything simple like that, he goes for dark, below-the-belt stuff which makes you laugh even harder because you know you shouldn’t have laughed at what he just said.
Anyway, on-topic, Frankie’s hosting the prestigious Golden Joystick awards in London at the end of October. The Joystick awards have run for 26 years (as of 2008) and are awarded to the best games of the year from a British perspective. There’s all of your typical GOTY awards (Halo 3 cleaned up last year) as well as “family” and “all-nighter” categories, for those games that you can play for hours on end and realize that the sun has gone down and come back up again.
Anyway, this news story isn’t about the Golden Joysticks. It’s about Frankie Boyle, because he’s one of the funniest guys ever. Maybe it’s a British sort of thing (laughing at things that we shouldn’t, but we do anyway) and people from other bits of the globe think he’s a twisted guy. It’s interesting this, as I have just finished watching three full episodes of Mock the Week, and as soon as the episodes finished, I went onto the SG main page, and who’s in the newest article? Frankie Boyle, one of the stars of Mock the Week.
He is a fantastic improv man, and I think that he is a good choice. He’s a funny man, and he knows what he’s talking about a lot.
I think I’ll be tuning in to watch the Golden Joysticks Award…

Is there such a thing as a british accent? surely its English, Scotish, Welsh, Irish and of course regional accent. Though I am from Yorkshire I dont sound it.

No such thing as a British accent, your right Blackswordsman, only regional, even the Scottish and Welsh ones vary slightly from county to county.
Frankie Boyle is hilarious, that video isn’t one of his best ones to be honest, he is that good. I am so looking forward to the Golden Joysticks now

Can’t stand the man, easily the most overrated stand up around at the moment (though with a few rare exceptions that could be said of everyone on Mock The Week).
That said, won’t have to watch the Golden Joysticks so all is well…
