Fallout 3
Look, I’m not gonna lie, at first glance, this game looks amazing. Post-apocalyptic landscape. First-person combat. 200 possible endings. 100 hours of possible gameplay. Another RPG from Bethesda, the makers of the Elder Scrolls series, a series of RPG’s that just kick all form of ass. Sign me up! Right?
What else is there to say? You’ll be able to upgrade weapons, armor, almost anything. You can specialize in heavy weapons, energy weapons, sub machine guns and many other types of ballistic weapons. Coupled with the first person combat is the VATS system. This is basically a turn based type of combat system that allows you to target specific body parts of an enemy. You’re success is based on your position, relative to the enemy and your particular strengths coupled with the strength of your current weapon. It’s fun and gives the game a bit of a face lift over the previous Bethesda RPG’s.
What’s not to like? Well, the sheer time factor. There’s a ton of games out there and I’m not sure I’ll have time to invest into the game. The VATS system. I know, I know, it seems pretty kick ass, but honestly, I’d rather just do the shooting myself, instead of letting the game do all the fun stuff for me. I’m sure there are absolute situations where using the VATS system is essential, but that doesn’t make it more of a draw for me. Finally, the “Bleak Factor.” Is this a game that I’m going to want to spend hours and hours of my time in? I don’t know. I really enjoy the type of story and world that Fallout 3 has to offer, but do I want to lose myself in it for hours on end? That remains to be seen.
At the end of the day, even if I do pick up both, there’s only so much time in the day. So, which one am I gonna pick? Who knows, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on the games in the comments below or in the SGC forums.
Which one should I get?
