We’re less than a week into the Extra Life effort and already we’re seeing some wild support from our friends far and wide.
As of the time of this article nearly 150 gamers have already signed up to do their part to fight kids’ cancer. A few folks have even secured a couple of sponsors.
If you are an active member of our community, we hope you’ll give very serious consideration to joining us. It only takes a second to sign up. DO IT NOW… RIGHT HERE.
For the new folks, Extra Life is a community-driven gaming marathon that will take place on October 18th. We’ll brave couch sores and caffeine-ralated injuries to play video games for 24 hours with our friends and families sponsoring us for each hour.
Each gamer gets their own personal fundraising page that they can link to in emails to friends and family members. Each gamer is asked to find at least 4 people to sponsor them for a dollar per hour ($24.00)
There have been a few questions regarding accountability and the hours of the event.
First of all, each participant is considered to be a kick-ass individual and thus we’ll be taking their word for their completion of the 24 hours.
Should you find yourself too tired to go on, or if life interrupts you in some way, don’t spaz out. You can make up the time on Sunday, or on the “Rain Date”, set for Saturday, October 25th.
While the fun in this idea is going to be working together at the same time, please don’t take the event so literally that you exclude yourself.
Whatever your situation, you are encouraged to get a page, sign up sponsors, and do the time with your games, even if you can’t do it all with the majority of the group.
We are so excited about this event and hope we’ll be seeing your fundraising page come online soon.
Remember, if you plan to join a team, its easiest to do so at signup. If you screw up, don’t sweat it. Just email Lesley and she’ll get you on the right team.
Thanks to everyone who’s coming together to make this event happen. Extra life is already shaping up to be the highlight of Sarcastic Gamer’s short but storied history.

I’ll try to do it with my friend who has a 360 and see if he wants to play the whole 24 hours. I will be doing it on my ps2 and pc if he can’t, it’s worth it
@Jonah: What communist country has you going to school on a Saturday?
i believe we’re hosting a local 10-hour halo party to try and boost some donations…might be a good idea for some others.
we’ll spend the other 14 hours online, i’m sure
I am so looking forward to the challenge of lasting the full 24. Hopefully plenty of other folks from the uk sign up so we can encourage each other over xbox live in the dark hours of the middle of the night.
I’m also in need of a good pair of headphones in order to prevent my neighbours killing me after I play COD all night. Recommendations appreciated!
I can’t wait. It’s going to be a hell of a good time. Maybe I’ll finally beat Mass Effect.
So there’s a rain date?
Why didn’t you say so?!
I am in!
I’ll be doing my 24 hours on the 25th then. If anyone else is doing it then, I’ll be playing Battlefield and Guitar Hero 3 for the PS3, and Crackdown, Rainbow Six Vegas, Halo 3, Mass Effect, MotoGP 06 and Timeshift. I’ll strive to have an Xbox Live subscription by then, so if I do, I’ll see you there!
Alright!
I ve got my gameswapping buddy who’s gonna help where I live in the endeavor. We did this for ACS last year.
