EA to EU PS3 owners: Just kidding, you’re not getting Rock Band

September 12th, 2008 · 17 Comments

PS3 owners of Europe, Rock Band is finally here! Right? Nope. EA have pulled the PlayStation 3 edition of the game from stores, simply citing their reasoning as “we just can’t be bothered anymore”.

Hit the jump for more info. It’s a sad day.

Remember yesterday’s delayed PlayStation Store update, which Sony said was down to “technical difficulties”. Nuh-uh. According to a press release from EA released this morning, the delay was created so the publisher could withdraw all downloadable track packs for Rock Band before anyone could download them and realize they couldn’t use them. This decision was later retracted and the track packs were put back on, delaying the Store update even further. EA’s Michael Rotch:

“We figured might as well milk people for a quick buck even if what they’re downloading wont be usable. Why not? European PlayStation 3 owners have a teeny tiny unplayable slice of Rock Band they can salivate over and we make a few quid here and there. It’s a win-win situation!”

The decision to eventually stall Rock Band’s European PlayStation release permanently came down to the simple fact that the company “couldn’t be bothered trying to put the game out there anymore because it’s taken far too long and is nothing to do with our own laziness”. According to the press release: “We [EA] simply took too long thinking about whether or not we should give Rock Band to EU PS3 owners after sitting around on our asses for 10 months and then we just decided we’d left it too late.”

“Oh, and they wont be getting Rock Band 2 either.”

The instrument packs and physical copies of the game were never entered into production, states the press release, and they never will be. To help ease the pain, EA is offering an Xbox 360 copy of the game to all PS3 owners “so they can at least hold the box” for a bargain price of £60 (€75/$106) not including shipping fees.

“See?” remarked Mr Rotch, when queried about this offer. “We care about our PlayStation 3 userbase enough to at least offer them that.”

Lol, I thought this was real for a second, considering what theyve done in the past.

That had me fooled for a second. It really wouldn’t surprise me if EA did this, but then again would EA really pass up the option of money?

It is due to laziness…EA has been whining from day 1 about “how difficult it is to develop for”…that to me, is a sign of laziness and not willing to learn to develop better coding for the PS3….EA is behind the times and not thinking in the long run….I mean, if your devs are that inexperienced with understanding the PS3…maybe its time to reach out to other devs that have a better grasp on the hardware like Insomniac and Naughty Dog….its devs like them that makes me have no pity for EA….

why not just get a 360?

I hear it’s easier for developers to work with, making them more efficient, and thus leading to better games.

Even if developing for the 360 was easier and resulted in better games, since the PS3 hardware is much stronger, even a poor PS3 game is comparable to the best 360 games.

Why buy outdated hardware like the 360? Go to a PC store and buy a real computer that isn’t restricted and retarded. Not to mention the RROD and disc read errors. A 73% failure rate is just astonishing.

Sad thing is, this is what actually happened with Phoenix Wright 3.

Because I can see that a lot of frustration at this sort of thing on SG, does this mean we’re going to have another boycott? OF EVERYTHING IN EUROPE?

I wouldn’t be suprised if this actually came out true. Eu gets the shaft from SCEE all the time anyway, yet all the idiots continue to put up with it! They buy the system knowing they will probably get the shaft, and then proceed to act surprised and bitch about it!

yea, its fiction but since moving to holland I wouldn’t piss on a ps3 even if it was on fire, and don’t get me started about ea.
