Editor’s Note: This is a reproduction of an email that I received this evening from CheapyD, of CheapAssGamer.com, in response to the articles written by Doc and I today regarding the Xbox Pure fiasco.
The email from CheapyD is absolutely real, unedited and reproduced in its entirety. After the jump.
Hey guys,
Just wanted to clarify my position a bit…
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a great writer and I think some of my article was misunderstood.
“I feel it’s important to note that this story originated from one of our users’ personal blogs and was not promoted in anyway by the CAG staff.”
I’m merely stating that I did not “promote” the article to the front page of CAG (where I do not post nutty rumors), nor did I or my staff make any claim anywhere that the story was true. The line you are focusing on was only included to highlight that a community sites’ user blog is not a reliable source. Especially this guy’s blog who had no other real entries on it.
I thought this was made clear by the next sentence,
“We did not submit it to any sites as news and it did not appear on the CAG front page where a big story like this would wind up if I was certain of its truthfulness.”
When we have a community member write up a good blog post, we can post it to the front page, like this:

I absolutely take full responsibility for the contest and everything that results from it. The article was not written in an attempt to cover my ass, but I felt it was necessary to expound on the situation.
I’m sure you are busy, but if you aren’t completely sick of the topic by now, I discuss it right at the start of this week’s show.

It is funny to me, the number of people who feel their ‘journalistic integrity’ has been tarnished by this.
There is no jounalistic integrity in the video game industry. If you feel you have some, you are wrong. This is why you write a blog about video games and not report on actual current events.
well said Keith
Comment of the year, Keith.
Keith @ There is no jounalistic integrity in the video game industry.
That’s the whole problem. The video game industry will alway’s have an image problem with the mainstream media and politicians as long as garbage like this continues.
Wow, I’m glad you made a real response that helps us ease a little better and not cause gamers to pick sides ala GameSpot. Thanks a lot.
Thank god! I’m glad he responded. This whole thing was getting out of hand, and I didn’t want two of my favorite video game websites fighting.
I’m with IronAxe3k.
In fact I think Sarcastic Gamer and CAG should unite together against BS articles because its ridiculous that garbage becomes news.
That would be nice neezy, but I’m pretty sure Lono hates CAG. lol
well that was a nice move
the man saw a situation and tried to make it clear
kudos for that
whether or not any one will care we’ll leave up to everyone
I do not hate CAG.
Oops. My bad then.
Hating things is awfully time consuming. I prefer hating people… specifically politicians.
Feel like we’re back in “hike school” lol….. what? Friends can play Endless Love in the dark…
Doc, I’ve always found it to be easier to hate everyone until they’ve proven themselves to me. So, considering I know none of you personally, I hate you all.
I kid, I kid.
I find this situation to be pretty ridiculous. CAG said jump and, without even asking how far, all the gaming blogs jumped right into the fire and got burned.
I’m not even sure if that analogy works, but I’m sticking with it.
I can’t believe that SG has got so little news to write that its resorted to posting 4 articles about the same news, all of which happened last week, and was addressed in the CAG podcast, which was released last Thursday. Why not have a “what games are out this week” section with a minor note as to how excited you all are about them?
Doc, now that you’ve read Cheapy’s response to the response about his response to Crescente’s response, has your opinion changed? The sentence that followed oft-quoted “I feel it’s important…” sentence in his “official” response puts things into perspective, doesn’t it? Earlier, you said you read his post five times “trying to see it another way.” No offense, but I’m not convinced. Still, I got nothing but love for you, brother!
For the record, I am a proud member of both the CAG and SG communities.
I still think that for him to have this contest, asking for false news to dupe websites, and then to wag his finger in their faces when they do exactly what he was trying to do in the first place is ridiculous.
Now that he’s taken full responsibility, all of this falls squarely on his shoulders.
I’m sure CheapyD is a nice enough guy, I just think he handled this WAY wrong.
@Gingerbob: Go whine somewhere else, please.
I hope SG will move on and find something else to be outraged by soon.
@ Gingerbob
GTFO.
@ Keith. Funny ’cause it’s true
Actually Gingerbob is kinda right. we couldn’t think of anything else except CAG yesterday.
We’re thinking of extending our coverage of the event to a full week.
What’s wrong, Lono, is the riduculous slant you gave to the “I feel it’s important…” sentence in CheapyD’s post, missing the obvious point that that a community sites’ user blog is not a reliable source.
There was never any basis for your “Cheapy D throws CAG community member under bus” article. None whatsoever. You invented something to be outraged about, and made a fool of yourself in the process.
The hell I did Curufinwe. He totally backed away from the contest in his initial post. He may have “cleared things up” here, but that doesn’t take anything away from my initial article… When you’re done sucking CheapyD’s D**K, get some common sense and then come talk to me.
I’ve lost a lot of respect for 2 people in the past 2 days, and CheapyD sure isn’t one of them.
Keith wote just the greatest comment, and instead of maybe turning the conversation to include that comment and what has happened with the CAG mess and the fallout from it, a bunch of people bitch about Lono, way to go.
I still think the point of the contest is what should matter, and what happened because of it and that is what Keith’s comment is saying(I think), game sites will pick up just about anything, and this was an excellent prank, the shit looked real.
Sorry to hear that RLM… I’m sure Frawlz and Eoco won’t be happy to read that.
@Lono
Classy response.
Thanks dude.
