Call of Duty 6 and some Treyarch cake

Shocking news! Infinity Ward is going to be developing Call of Duty 6!

Ok, so maybe the news is not that shocking at all. We all knew they’d be back after gamers finished devouring their “World at War, hold us over until COD6″ cake. Just like before, Infinity Ward is going to trade places with Treyarch, alternating who is developing the next COD title. Which has left a lot of people thinking that World at War is going to be another COD3. Unfair? Likely?

Find out the latest on COD6 and COD: World at War after the jump!

Activision CEO and Publishing president Mike Griffith has confirmed that Infinity Ward would return to develop what he referred to as simply “Call of Duty 6″, and that the game is slated for a 2009 release.

As far as World at War is concerned, Griffith spoke of Activision’s desire to monetize the online play (that’s code for “make more money off of DLC”) and that it will supposedly have three times the amount of DLC that COD4 received. If all that content is actually of high quality and fairly priced, that’s one thing, but if it’s a bunch of low peg “just enough to make you cough up some cash” DLC, that’s another thing entirely. The last thing gamers want to see is very basic additions that really just plug holes - glorified patches you have to pay for, if you will. Personally, I have a feeling things will fall somewhere in the middle. DLC is a slippery slope.

Griffith also spoke of “Day One Advantage” premium content, which he explained as “the ability to accelerate your experience points when you play online.” Activision is apparently working very hard to come up with ways of widening the COD business model and Griffith said their was “”tremendous opportunity” to bring COD to new “theaters, game designs, and plotlines” in the future.

Now I’ll be the first to admit I get a giggle out of taking pot shots at Treyarch, but lets be honest about one thing: COD3 did not suck. Heck I’d even say it was good. Not great, not an everlasting classic by any means. The problem is: nobody played COD3. I expect World at War to actually be pretty darn entertaining. Sure, we’re back in WW land, but all you neigh-sayers know damn well you’ll pick it up. I’ve no doubt there will be something to gripe about, there always is, but I seriously doubt the game will be terrible. At the very worst, World At War will be just what I said before, a MORE than ample piece of cake to hold gamers over until COD6 comes out.

I’m cool with that. I like cake.

That cake there is a LIE!

Sorry… felt compelled to make the obvious comment.

Oh, and I actually like Treyarch… being a Mac user and all.

Yep totally agree. I argue with people who say ‘Cod5 sucked’, and they havn’t even played it.
It didn’t live up to the other Cod’s, but it didn’t suck lol.

Well it may be good; and i’ll give it a chance (with the beta)…. but i’m not gettinmg my hopes up.

Treyarch have something to prove after CoD 3…Not that CoD 3 was particularly bad; it just wasn’t competing with games like Gears/Halo 2 at the time.
Was fun but not a good competitive game.

I think Monkeyboo2 brings up a strong point “Was fun but not a good competitive game.”

In my opinion, the single player story was well orchestrated in COD3.

This suggests that COD5 should have a fantastic single player experience and since they’ll likely port most of what was already created in COD4’s multiplayer (they are already using the same graphic engine from 4), they’ll have a multiplayer experience at least on par with COD4.

      That’s a good thing, right?

I loved COD3, not sure why some people say it sucked really bad.
