Bungie will begin doing countdowns for everything

Fresh off their highly-successful countdown to a title update for Halo 3, Bungie announced this morning that they will begin putting up countdowns and nonsensical dialogue to hype up everything in sight.

“If countdowns and nonsense leading up to a simple title update can make it special and important,” said one Bungie insider, “Why not bring that magic to everything we do?”

Earlier today, a new countdown appeared on Bungie’s website, this one, showing just under 5 hours (at the time of this writing) until something delicious happens for gamers everywhere.

Bungie officials had no comment regarding reports that the clock was merely counting down the minutes to lunch time.

Other companies, recognizing the effectiveness of using countdowns to promote themselves, have also jumped on board.

This morning, Sony posted a countdown to profitability, however as  of this morning the code seems to be stuck at 999:23:59:59.

Nintendo has also posted a countdown on its website that is supposed to mark the minutes until the Nintendo Wii reaches its prime.  Strangely, the counter is counting up.

Whatever happens, it appears that regardless of the proportion of the payoff involved, gamers are going to be seeing a lot more countdowns from Bungie in the future.

“Eventually we’d like to get things to the point that as soon as one countdown ends, another begins,” confessed our source.  ”Even if we don’t really have anything decent to announce when the timer reaches zero.”
