“Rock Band 2″ has a pretty impressive soundtrack. When I say impressive, I don’t mean like saving five senior citizens from a nursing home fire. No. I mean saving five geriatrics from a nursing home fire with concrete blocks chained to your ankles. Yea, it is that awesome.
The game, which ships with 84 songs, features tunes from industry giants like AC/DC, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Journey, Megadeth, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush and The Who. How do you make a rocking set list even better? Add the “Beverly Hills Cop” theme song you say? While I enjoy your enthusiasm, I was leaning toward the injection of more AC/DC. Why did I mention that specific band?
Are you ready all the details for the “AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack”? Splendid! Now jump puny mortal.
According to a report by The New York Times, the aforementioned expansion pack, which will be exclusive to Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club starting this November, will feature 18 tracks from the band’s “Live at Donington” DVD.
MTV plans to announce on Tuesday that it has made a deal with the band and its label, Columbia Records, to create an AC/DC version of the channel’s popular Rock Band video game that will be sold in the United States only at Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and the Wal-Mart Web site.
The full list is available for your consumption below.
• “Thunderstruck”
• “Shoot to Thrill”
• “Back in Black”
• “Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be”
• “Heatseeker”
• “Fire Your Guns”
• “Jailbreak”
• “The Jack”
• “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”
• “Moneytalks”
• “Hells Bells”
• “High Voltage”
• “Whole Lotta Rosie”
• “You Shook Me All Night Long”
• “T.N.T.”
• “Let There Be Rock”
• “Highway To Hell”
• “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)”
According to Wal-Mart’s official site, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii versions of the standalone disc will retail for $39.88, while the PlayStation 2 SKU will cost $29.88.
For faux musicians that hate switching discs, Joystiq has reported that, “The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions ship with a code on the back of the game manual that lets you import all of the songs into the ‘Rock Band’ or ‘Rock Band 2′ game environment.” The popular blog has also received confirmation from Harmonix and MTV Games that the expansion pack “will be available in the U.S. on Nov. 2nd for Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2 and on Nov. 16th for Wii.”
Though I have complained about the lack of AC/DC songs in music games, I doubt I will be purchasing this track pack. I desperately want to shred to “Thunderstruck,” “Highway to Hell” and “Moneytalks,” but $40 is a lot of money to spend on an expansion pack during a loaded holiday season. I might just wait patiently and hope that all 18 songs become DLC in the future. Still, this huge victory for the “Rock Band” platform is sure to please many fans of the legendary band. I absolutely refuse to purchase “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” or the upcoming Metallica-centric title, but an AC/DC-themed pack would be a welcome addition to my software library or PS3 HDD.

That’s what the code is for?! F*** YES, BABY! NOVEMBER 2 CAN’T COME SOONER!!
Ah sh!t, misread that… thought it meant the code in the Rock Band 2 game… I understand now… I also am unsure if I want to pay $40 for that. Considering 18 songs is technically $36 in DLC terms… 4 bucks for the disc? Why not just put it up as DLC?
It’s not Friday so it must be true! I won’t pay that much but hey…that’s what boyfriends are for! I mean…I’ll ask him nicely….
I am assuming there are OTHER songs besides ACDC for that 40 bucks? If not… boo
Well, the songs normally retail for about 2 bucks, so… 18 times 2, plus bonus stuff, like a possible bonus arena or whatever… and don’t forget sales tax…
That sucks. AC/DC got me into rock music, but $40? ugh…
No way is $40 a reasonable price for this. The full albums that are currently on Rock Band DLC cost $20, right? So how are they justifying charging double that for just a few more songs? Not only that but why is this launching so close to Rock Band 2? Who in their right mind is going to pick this over Rock Band 2?
Make it DLC only and charge $30 for it and then I’ll consider purchasing it.
I Hate “Live” Albums!!!
Why not just have the studio tracks from the original cds?
That being said, it should’ve been DLC.
This is just a marketing ploy for the EVIL that is WALMART.
@ Caffeine:
Yes the original tracks would probably better, but a lot of times it’s difficult for MTV to get a bunch of different songs from different albums. This album is all good songs, and it’s only on one album, so that probably makes it a lot easier for getting the rights to use the songs.
I do agree that this is a little high in price. Put it as DLC, I’ll download a few songs for sure, though.
