4 Games in September that will empty my wallet

Just like last year, a deluge of games began pouring out of the woodwork once Madden was released. While last year’s big August hit, Bioshock, was ten times better than this year’s Too Human, I don’t think that is any indication that the quality of games this year will be worse. This is especially true when I looked over the game release calendar for September.

Last year, the biggest title was Halo 3, but there were still a few quality titles like Eternal Sonata that would appeal to the right audience. It seems like the same thing is happening this month, but there are a few big names that will make my wallet cry. Find out what I’m planning on buying after the jump.

Infinite Undiscovery (9/3/08) – I love a good RPG. On top of that, Square Enix and Tri-Ace are my favorite RPG makers since my Star Ocean 2 days back on the Playstation. Infinite Undiscovery looks to be taking a page from that book with real time action/rpg battles and what seems like an abscence of random fights since the action all takes place in the main game world. I missed Lost Odyssey when it came out, and I’ve yet to pick it up because I’ve kind of grown away from the Turn-Based battle system. Infinite Undiscovery will definitely be a purchase for me when it releases on Wednesday, even if the name is a little silly. How can you undiscover something? Maybe I’ll find out.

Spore (9/8/08) – How long as Spore been coming out? I’m not sure of the exact timeframe, but I know it’s been long enough for people to get really hyped about the game and lose interest. Well, it’s finally set to release next week, and we can only hope that it’s going to be everything Mr. Wright says it is. I’m not personally estatic to get my hands on the game, but I think it’s going to be a fun diversion, and will probably be cool to see my penis creatures take over the penis universe.

Rock Band 2 (9/15/08) – This is the game I’m a little iffy about. Upon looking over the release calendar, it looks like I’ll be able to buy Rock Band 2, the guitar, the mic, and the drums all seperately for a hefty price. Or I could wait until October and get the bundle. I’m considering picking it up this month with the mic and the guitar, since there is absolutely nowhere in my man cave for a set of drums. I also don’t know about the mic, because a lonely man sitting in his room singing to himself is just a little creepy.

The Force Unleashed (9/17/08) – The demo seems to have split the community with some people really enjoying the mindless killing of stormtroopers and rebels while other people think it plays like a standard third-person action game with a pretty crappy camera. I fall on the former side, and I personally think it’s endless fun to grab a trooper, send him flying as far up into the air as possible, then rocket him down to a quick death. Using the force has always been my favorite activity in Star Wars games, so I’m quite happy they’re finally releasing a game where that’s the main premise.

So there you have it. You can probably hear my wallet weeping from wherever you reside right now, but it should man up and take it like the piece of leather it is. I could always wait for some of these games to drop in price, but as long as my budget supports it, I don’t see the harm in it. At least September isn’t going to be as bad as October, or even November. I might just have to buy a money clip and lock my wallet in the closet so I don’t have to hear its cries of agony.
