Not bought a 360 yet? Good, go buy a PS3.
Alternatively, if that’s not to your taste, you could go and pick up a new, improved, cheaper Xbox 360. Hit the jump for prices and the like.
In an oddly casual-oriented press release today Microsoft declared that living out “musical fantasies” in LIPS and starring in Hollywood flicks in You’re In The Movies would be cheaper than ever from this Friday coming. Ignoring the confusingly unattractive PR blabber, there’s some good news in there for those who haven’t bought a 360 yet or if you’re looking for a quick impulse buy that’s being pimped as a Wii Lite.
From the 19th, the standard Xbox 360 console with wireless controller and 60GB hard drive will cost you a paltry £169.99. Want the Arcade ‘Xbox Lite’? That’s only gonna cost you £129.99. The Elite model, 120GB hard drive and all, has been sliced to £229.99. All in all, not a bad deal.
Naturally, as claimed by the press release, these cuts are here so everyone can access fantastic gaming content with the Dashboard’s “bold new look and feel that is fun, social and simple to use” and not at all inspired by the Nintendo Wii. Apparently the “first time in history that a mass market consumer electronics device has been reinvented through free software”, it’s all a bit willy-nilly and smacks of trying to squeeze some more sales out of a console that seems to have reached its sales peak as of late.
That’s fine by me as it makes perfect business sense, but still…why are Microsoft so keen to promote casual credentials over its hardcore lineup? Hmm. That’s really for another time, such as this one. For now, if you’re a 360 owner-to-be or looking to replace your current one, there’s never been a better time to go for it. On Friday, anyway.

Wow impressive.
To be honest, i thought here in the UK we wouldn’t get anything!
I’m definatly considering a 360 now. I have a ps3 and always thought it was a bit of a waist to have 2 of the next gen consoles that share most big games – but at such a price who can resist?
