When I say play in 3D, i mean SEE in 3D. Giant Bomb have uncovered a hidden feature of Bizarre’s latest title, which activates a 3D camera mode. Unfortunately you can’t continue playing when the camera mode is activated, but it’s still pretty cool to see the game in the third dimension. I’m blogging on the road this week so I haven’t had a chance to try it out, but I’ve seen enough comments that confirm it works, for me to bother writing this up.
Details after the jump.
In order to access the third dimension you need to press RB and the Back button simultaneously during play. This will take you into the 3D mode in which gameplay will instantly be stopped, leaving you to navigate around using the left stick. It’s not the most useful feature in the world, but at least it shows that the enemies are actually rendered in 3D, even though they’re on a 2D plane most of the time. Um…yeah.
In other news, a post on NeoGAF has shown that Geometry Wars 2 is the fastest selling XBLA game to date overtaking Rex HD (the previous title holder). The statistic is based on sales from the Wednesday of release to Friday, so basically 3 days. Don’t believe me? Why not have a look for yourself.
If you haven’t got Geometry Wars 2 then go and buy it. If you’re not going to buy it, then you are evil. Yesterday I played the game till 3am, the day before it was 5am. The game looks gorgeous, is unnaturally addictive and constantly keeps you coming back for more. While the unrelenting assault of colours may have burnt out my retinas, I don’t regret a single minute of it. A game that can cause so much anguish and entertainment at the same time, deserves to be commended and bought. Seriously, just buy it. Now.

Actually went back to the first one today and had some fun. It’s still not Super Stardust but it’s fun, might give the new one a go.

Uh oh. I rented the DS version of Geometry Wars and thought it was pretty good. I don’t think tilting it to the side would make it any easier to control.
