News on the “Rock Band” front has been rather slow since the entire set list was revealed at E3. A slew of information and rumors (mostly the latter) hit the ‘net soon after the game’s official reveal. However, it appears that now fans are simply waiting in anticipation for the September release date for the Xbox 360.
Hold on there fan of Internet blogs. Just because “Eye of the Tiger” has been confirmed doesn’t mean there isn’t still news to report.
Apparently, the fine folks over at Kotaku have obtained the release dates for the 360, Playstation 3 and Wii versions of “Rock Band 2.” According to a “retail tipster,” the game will launch on the 360 on September 14, with the PS3 and Wii versions slated to ship on October 19 and November 18, respectively.
The aforementioned 360 release coincides with the pre-order listing that appeared on Amazon in July.
With the battle for music-game supremacy heating up, I imagine the PS3 release date was scheduled with the intent to get the SKU on store shelves before “Guitar Hero: World Tour” releases on October 26. As a PS3 owner, I am relieved to see that I won’t have to wait too much longer to play the game. However, the full month of timed exclusivity for 360 owners has me green with envy.
Unfortunately, for Wii owners, Nintendo’s cash cow will once again be the last current-generation home console to get a game in Harmonix’s uber-popular franchise. “Rock Band” for the Wii was released this year on June 22, while the 360 and PS3 versions hit retail on Nov. 20, 2007.
I find the release schedule to be a bit odd. We already knew that Microsoft would enjoy a period of timed exclusivity, but why is the Wii version shipping almost a month after the PS3 version? “Guitar Hero: World Tour” is slated for a simultaneous release on all platforms. Why is the Wii version of “Rock Band 2″ lagging behind? Does Harmonix dislike the Wii that much? Is the company having trouble scaling down the title’s graphics? Is it going to implement some sort of Wii-exclusive waggle controls?
There is probably a good reason, but I am too busy mapping the chart notes to “Peace Sells” in my head to come up with any plausible ones.

the early release of the 360 version is to get the most buyers for the 360 owners. the same applies for the ps3. the wii however faces several problems. because the ps3/360 is being released one right after the other, the wii owners will feel that one won’t be released for the system except for those who keeps updated on gaming news. in addition, since it’s being released near thanksgiving day, the company want so milk as much money from the wii owners as they will be surprised for the recently released game for the wii and the holiday season is just around the corner. this is also another problem as since the game is just released around the corner and is near the holiday season, buyers may avoid it since it’s not on their buying list.

That’s crappy for Wii owners. However, since Harmonix is obviously in a special relationship with Microsoft it shouldn’t be too surprising that Wii’s would get shafted.
