The Quick and Dirty way to win in Civilization Revolution

Note: This is yet another, in a long line of Sarcastic Gamer Survival Guides that we’ve done to help our fellow gamers kick butt and take names in games such as Call of Duty 4, GTA IV, Burnout Paradise and more.

Check out all of our Survival Guides right here.

Civilization is and was an all time classic game. Maybe in the top five games of all time. Well, now you’ve got a fancy shmancy version for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The thing about all Civ games is that it’s kind of complicated. Civ Rev is dumbed down a bit for console consumption, but the core game is there. That means that a few tips and tricks, carried over from previous Civ games, should be enough, if you find yourself getting your butt kicked in on the Warlord level, or when playing friends online.

I’m gonna show you the quick and dirty secrets to win, including a few strategies and your tech tree path to success, after the jump!

The most important difference in Civ Rev from it’s PC counterparts is the map size. It’s the same no matter what. You can’t change it and it’s always going to be too small for comfort. What does that mean for you? That means that Civ Rev is all about combat. With civilizations so close to each other at the beginning of the game, you’re going to have to go on the offense if you stand any chance of winning.

Here’s what you do and it doesn’t matter what civilization you play as. A lot of these tips are basic, but when put together, you’ll win, well at least you may win… I’m not promising anything… *Frawlz*

Beginning Keys to Success.
  • This one’s easy but often overlooked: Send at least three warriors out and about to find the barbarians and cause havok. First, you’ll need as much gold as possible early on. Second, I’ve captured cities in multiplayer with one wandering warrior, because some player’s careless settlers decided it was time to settle down, without protection.
  • Build settlers after building your third warrior. Settle another town as quick as you can and do it relatively close to your capital city.
  • Build a barracks. This should be the first thing you build in every city you conquer or settle.
  • Build roads. As soon as possible.
Those key points should get you going soon enough, but what about tech? Well, since Civ Rev is, by default, focused on fighting, you’d best get the biggest, baddest fighters as soon as possible. Catapults.
They have the biggest attack rating until metallurgy is researched and are great for attacking cities with walls, where they nullify the defensive bonus of City Walls when you’re attacking.
Here’s how you do it:
  • Research these technologies in order: bronze working (for barracks and archers), alphabet, pottery, then masonry and writing, then get mathematics for catapults. It’s that easy.
Check out what to do next, on page 2.

Dang it. I want to play that game cause everyone else is, but I hate that it feels dumbed down from the last.

Civ always seemed too involved for me. All the different things to research just threw me when I was younger. Maybe I needed the dumbed down version.
