I will admit that writing for Sarcastic Gamer has become increasingly more strenuous without “Rock Band 2″ news oozing from every corner of the Internet. Instead of simply posting a long list of rumored songs, I actually have to come up with witty editorials of my own. I know what you are thinking. My life is really tough. I appreciate your empathy, but it isn’t that bad. I just like to whine.
Fortunately, for me, today is one of the easier days. Why you ask? Well, because there is more “Rock Band 2″ news to report. I wish I could reveal the information now, but Lono demands that all stories must be longer than two paragraphs. He is such a demanding editor. You know what to do.
The folks at Harmonix are quite ambitious. Aside from releasing new downloadable content each week, the company is hoping to make 500 songs available on its “Rock Band” platform by the end of 2008. That is at least 20 billion times more than the competition. Alright, so that last statement was a bit of an exaggeration. Regardless, Harmonix has done an excellent job of providing the “Rock Band” community with a continually expanding pool of content.
The company plans to shove even more content down your throat when it releases “Rock Band 2″ for numerous platforms this fall. In addition to the 84 tracks that will ship on the disc, Harmonix is planning to strengthen the game’s set list by offering 20 downloadable songs free of charge.
That hefty amount of content might satisfy a lesser development team. However, Harmonix doesn’t restrict its DLC to track packs. The company also enjoys throwing its fans a full downloadable album every now and then. Thankfully, that trend will continue for the foreseeable future.
Though most future content remains a mystery until a week prior to release, Entertainment Weekly has revealed six full albums that will become DLC sometime after “Rock Band 2″ ships. Check out the list below.
- Foo Fighters’ “The Colour and the Shape”
- Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”
- Jane’s Addiction’s “Nothing’s Shocking”
- Megadeth’s “Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying”
- Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Texas Flood”
- “A specially-compiled No Doubt Best Of collection”
A release date has not been confirmed for any of the aforementioned content.
Though I probably won’t splurge for the full albums, I am glad to see that “My Hero” by the Foo Fighters will finally be making its way to the “Rock Band” platform. Now all I need is for Harmonix to announce that Fleetwood Mac’s “Greatest Hits” is in the pipeline. I would club an undetermined number of baby seals for that album. I hope no one from PETA reads my articles.
Thus far, Harmonix has released four downloadable albums for the “Rock Band” platform. The list is comprised of Judas Priest’s “Screaming for Vengeance,” The Cars’ self-titled first album, “The Best of The Who” compilation and The Pixies “Doolittle.” Unfortunately, Nirvana’s “Nevermind” remains in limbo.
This news will probably do little to console Rush fans awaiting the release of “Moving Pictures.” Regardless, I imagine more than a few readers danced a jig upon reading this article. If not, just lie to me. My ego requires satisfaction.

It’s a shame that the megadeth album isn’t rust in peace really.
I’ll probably end up with a few of those Megadeth and Foo Fighters tracks, but HOLY HELL YES BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK
I am very happy with this news (which I found out before the article but nontheless
) and shall be grabbing quite a number of the songs from those albums. I’m also still waiting for the now delayed release of Moving Pictures.
However, please take note that (unless I’m wrong about this, maybe it was a bad source) but Nevermind was never ACTUALLY announced to come. Or at least, so Harmonix says. They just said they had access to all of the Nevermind songs. And seeing as they’ve already used one Nevermind song and are planning on putting a second one into Rock Band 2 you might think it’d be even less likely. Though, since they have access to them all and aren’t using the ones everyone usually recognizes, I find it strange that they DON’T release the rest of the album.
“I would club an undetermined number of baby seals for that album.”
But the warranty is void if the seal is broken!
