Hello and welcome to the sixth edition of our new feature here on Sarcastic Gamer cleverly entitled ‘Sarcastic Gamer’s Weekly Wonder’. Each week I’ll be posting an interesting question about video games, so interesting in fact, that you’ll want to answer it. And answer it you shall – all you have to do is post your reply to the question in the comment box. Simple.
Weekly Wonder is here, albeit a little late. This weeks mouth watering question is after the jump and boy is it a good one.
Boy: Yes it is.
For this week’s Weekly Wonder we want to know all about how you get your gaming news. Do you only check SG, or do you have 40,000 RSS feed subscriptions in Google Reader? Do you check news on the go, or at home? Maybe you just hear about the latest happenings by word of mouth? How closely do you follow games before their launch? Do you find that reading previews ruins the experience? To what extent do reviews influence your buying habits?
As usual just leave your answers in the comment box and, if you have any topics you’d like to unleash on the community for future Weekly Wonders, then just send me a PM.

my gaming news comes from SG’s blog, podcast and other gaming podcasts
I generally check SG and IGN for news.
I don’t think previews will ever ruin a game for me as long as they’ve avoided detailing story elements. Stating the premise for the story is fine, but I don’t want to know anything beyond that.
As for influence toward buying games, I only ever trust the reviews of people who aren’t paid to do it, anyone who reads Playstation or Xbox exclusive magazines will know just how biassed they can be. The primary reason for me buying a particular game will usually come down to a good concept and some sound gameplay trailers, if those two attributes are present I’ll give anything a try.
I usually check SG and Kotaku for my gaming news.
Also I check gametrailers for vids.
There are a number of gaming news sites and blogs that I check. I can only check it at home since I don’t carry around a laptop and my employer blocks most of the internet at work.
I follow games before their launch enough so that I have an idea of what’s coming out when and what I think I want to pick up. I generally don’t hunt down every detail about a game, but if I see news on a game I’m thinking about buying, I’ll generally read it.
I usually avoid previews/reviews, unless I’m VERY interested in the game or the score is not what I expect. If a game I’m planning on picking up gets a 1.5/5 on a site I go to, I’ll probably read the review to figure out why(sometimes low scores are undeserved, or they are complaining about things that don’t bother me).
One review generally won’t sway me, but it will make me go check out other reviews/comments, and depending on what I find, that day 1 purchase may become a “buy later”, or “buy when it’s $20-$30″, or not a buy at all.
I check SG and some finnish gaming sites.
That’s all.
To be honest I only get my gaming news from SG.
I get my gaming news from only community sites since I’ve been about supporting the little guys. The only times I go to the big ones is when you link a article.
I have multiple community podcast that I listen on my ipod. I usually am the word of mouth with my friends.
I follow games that I feel are hardcore and when it’s a fps or gta like I will follow it for a while. Unless you hear the ending to a game in a preview it’s not possible to ruin a game for me. If it does the your game needs work.
I almost never listen to people to tell me if a game is good or not. With the amount of information on the internet you can always find gameplay fottage and stuff of that nature which I form my own thoghts on and have always been right when I know I’ll like it. Reviews no matter what unless it’s telling me that I run my holding down the “a” and “b” button will never effect my purchasing. I don’t buy games based on other peoples opinions.
mainly sg but i occasianally check places like joystiq and ign
I have been checking IGN for a year and a half, Gamespot and Gamefaqs for 2 and a half a years, and Sarcastic Gamer for a half a year every day for my gaming news and reviews . I also go to Racketboy once in a while, they have some interesting articles.
