PS3’s Trophies quota increases with Buzz! Quiz TV

August 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The PS3’s received another addition to its slowly-expanding Trophies list with the surprise inclusion of quiz game Buzz! Quiz TV.

Hit the jump for the details of the game’s Trophies in full.

Since Buzz! Quiz TV doesn’t seem to be out in the US until September we Europeans who have had the game for a month now (review here) are at an advantage, adding to the exponentially-growing list of games that support Trophies. Joining the likes of Super Stardust HD, PixelJunk Eden and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Buzz! features at least 20 trophies with 6 ’secret’ Trophies unlocked only when you realise that you’ve..well, unlocked it.

The trophies range from ‘play an online game’ to scoring ‘X’ points in a single player game and winning ‘X’ many games. There’s a bit of an unremarkable pattern but it also boasts the second Platinum trophy after Uncharted’s. Unremarkable, but still a sign that PS3’s Trophies system is starting to pick up momentum.

My hopes are pretty high for the Trophies system since its expansion has began with the likes of PixelJunk Eden. Sure, there isn’t exactly anything to get out of it (and I wont deny that I was initially cynical at the start) but it’s a real kick-up-the-ass from your PS3, essentially telling you to get back into your old games and remember why they were fun again.

Most gamers like nothing more than a challenge and so Trophies are just the thing to stir up some inspiration. For instance, I keep coming back to Super Stardust over and over again to notch up that elusive 10x Multiplier trophy (did it yesterday at last, thanks for asking) and my enthusiasm for Uncharted has been reignited with both the introduction of Trophies and competition I’m having with a friend over who will complete the set first. He’s currently winning (as I got distracted by Stardust, as you’ll understand).

Still, I’ve remembered why I enjoyed Uncharted so much last year as I’ve played through it again, notching up trophy after trophy and enjoying every little bit of it all over again, even if I’ve finished it a good few times. The same goes for Super Stardust and I have no doubt that Buzz! will keep me coming back purely for the sake of bragging rights.

Sony are naturally keen to promote PS3’s answer the 360’s Achievements system and their support is becoming obvious, albeit slowly. With exclusive Bioshock trophies on the horizon too, all we can do for now is politely applaud Sony’s efforts in creating the Trophy system but taking their sweetass time in getting it supported. Still, good things come to those who wait…

I generally agree with your positive take on Trophies, but wrote a post yesterday with a criticism of the system which might interest some people as a counterpoint: http://sarcasticgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=1661
