Praise Be Thy Axe: Introducing Guitar Praise

August 29th, 2008 at 8:00 am · 4 Comments

And there was me thinking that rock and roll was a tool of the devil. Fresh from those grand and mighty folks at, uh, Digital Praise comes Guitar Praise, a PopStation-style cheapass knock-off of Guitar Hero, but for Christians. Don’t worry, your calendar’s right. It’s not Friday. [NB: This was written on Thursday and is intended to be read as such, even if it was published on Friday. Shhhh.]

As one hardly riveted by even the most soulful gospel music, I’m not exactly falling over myself to pre-order this hip new rhythm game sensation thingybobber. Hit the jump anyway but be warned; this will be dour.

According to Digital Praise, Guitar Praise will let you “play along with top Christian bands” and “add a unique sound to the solid Christian rock”, all the while praising the Lord and his mighty name and so on and so forth. As far as quick cash-ins go, sapping the money of the religiously devout, it’s touching but pretty shameful.

Digital Praise promise a bunch of features we’ve not seen elsewhere in a certain other guitar-based rhythm game and a controller with five buttons on the frets, coloured green, red, yellow, blue and orange, which we’ve not seen elsewhere either.

However, with that sort of optimism I can only assume comes with religion, you’re not told that you fail songs. Instead, “the artists will take a break and stop the music” if you can’t keep up. Hmm.

With such all-out rocking acts as tobyMac, Red, Bride and, um, Pillar, I can’t see this lasting very long, especially with no screenshots provided to entice buyers and with the inevitable Activision lawsuit on the horizon. Still, with PC/Mac compatibility and “onscreen lyrics [that] reflect Christian values” (effectively nullifying the need for Rock Band-style microphones) what’s not to lose?

Well, knowing companies like Activision, I’d say there’s every last penny of your fortune up for grabs.

    • That’s not fair. You shouldn’t be allowed to put out articles that sound like they are fake on Friday, only for them to be true. This sounds exactly like something you guys would cook up. Shame on you.

Wow commenters, Christians are gamers too!
The Christian music industry is probably one of the largest “specific” music genres out there and with that being said why not put out a genre specific Guitar Hero since they won’t give us our own DLC on Rock Band or GH.
In fact there are a lot of Christian bands out there on different games that you may not know. Flyleaf, Switchfoot, Reliant K and more. Played Flatout Ultimate Carnage? The majority of songs in their soundtrack are from Christian Bands.
There seem to be a lot of ignorant people out there who associate Christianity with weakness and I sure don’t appreciate it considering how close we are to Sarcastic Gamer. Maybe before you go off and run your mouth with profanities like “Holy ****” and more you should check yourself.
