Crafty Wii homebrewer, Ewart, has come up with a quick and simple method to play DVDs on your Wii, without any hardware modifications. Wooo! Go last-generation-disc-based-media-platforms! However while this is incredible exciting news, I’m less concerned about DVDs, and more concerned as to how I’ll convert my pile of wax cylinders, over to tape cassette. According to an insider Nintendo Executive, the Wii “should have full wax cylinder and tape cassette support by the year 2012″. Phew, that’s a relief.
Ok that’s enough sarcasm, I’m gonna give it a go, I can’t wait to watch DVDs on my -
Oh wait! I just realised! I don’t need to do all this homebrew stuff to enable DVD playback, because I have a fricking PS2!
Ok, maybe that a little too harsh on the people who are still living in 1997. The enabled play-back comes with a half decent media player that, as well as allowing you watch films, will play video files off an SD card. Sounds totally rad. For those of you who are interested in having this expanded functionality, Wii Fanboy have a great guide on how to do just that or, for the tech savvy among us who already have the homebrew channel installed, you can just watch the video embedded below. Enmoy!

@Infneon
Well, the source links to HackMii.com so…
Is there really anybody who doesn’t already have a couple DVD players?
It’s great that this works, but I can’t imagine ever needing it from my Wii.
Any news of a Blu-Ray mod?
