Picking up Left 4 Dead on Nov. 4? Not so fast

“Left 4 Dead” looks absolutely awesome. The game’s AI Director aims to keep hardcore gamers on their toes. This impressive technology will ensure that each round is a new experience, as the game’s undead enemies will never attack the same way from the same location.

The SG team has been hyping this game for quite some time. It is a safe bet that a few of us will be purchasing the game when it ships in November. Unfortunately, the team-based zombie slaying won’t be happening in the first week of the month.

The game’s previously reported release date of Nov. 4 has been pushed back. Get the new release date, after the jump.

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, the guy famous for calling the PS3 a waste of time, revealed during the Leipzig Games Convention that “Left 4 Dead” will ship on Nov. 20. Skip to the 12-minute mark if you want to hear the news straight from Newell. Otherwise, feel free to enjoy the hefty amount of gameplay footage.

This news is sure to disappoint some (I think I just heard an obscenity from Chicago).  However, for a release that has been pushed back numerous times, a two-week delay is not that bad. Especially in light of the crazy amount of AAA titles being released at the end of October and Gears of War 2 on November 7.

The title is currently planned as an exclusive for the Xbox 360 and PC. A rumor surfaced earlier this month that Electronic Arts would be porting the game to the Playstation 3. Though Valve’s Doug Lombardi was quick to deny that such a SKU was in development, he recently told CVG that there was a “50-50″ chance of a PS3 version.

“We’re always evaluating what’s happening in the marketplace and certainly something that’s happening in the last couple of months is that Sony’s managed to sell some boxes,” Lombardi said. “They’re in the race now, so we’ve got to re-evaluate that for what it is.”

What a shock. Valve likes making money.

Personally, I think it is only a matter of time before “Left 4 Dead” is ported to the PS3. It makes good financial sense. However, Lombardi told CVG that no such version will be released this year.

Lombardi’s statements prove that Valve is cognizant of the PS3’s expanding install base. However, there is no guarantee that the game will come to Sony’s current-generation home console. My fingers are crossed, but I am not going to hold my breath.

You have to think it’s a move to get people to buy the game after my local retail stores raid my wallet. I should have enough money to play it on launch day, and so should others.
