Let the Uncharted trophy collection begin

August 5th, 2008 at 12:00 pm · 5 Comments

I haven’t played “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” since I conquered the title back in January. The game was a blast, but a couple completions was enough to satiate my treasure-hunting desires.

The recent addition of trophies in the 2.40 update seemed to provide a reason to re-insert the disc into my PS3. However, when it was revealed that the requirements for the trophies would mirror those of the game’s medal system (with the exception of the Platinum trophy), I decided to keep the title on the shelf.

Previous information from Naughty Dog, the game’s developer, confirmed that trophy support would come sometime in August.  Well, it is now August, and it looks like the reports were true (though the patch has come sooner than expected.)

Early yesterday, numerous Internet blogs reported that update 1.10 had been made available for download in Europe. I sent Yamster on a little errand to see if the reports were true.  The verdict? Europeans were indeed the first of the Sony faithful to receive the patch.

Luckily, those of us in the States didn’t have to wait much longer.  I received notification that the update was ready for download upon booting up “Uncharted” yesterday afternoon.

“Uncharted” is the third PS3 game to receive trophy support.  The other two titles are “Super Stardust HD” and “PixelJunk Eden.”

If you haven’t downloaded the patch yet, simply sign in to your PSN account and start up the game. You should be prompted to download the patch.

Like I said above, I really have no plans to go back and play “Uncharted” at the moment. The medal system is enough to inflate my gaming ego, so I don’t feel the need to redo all of those challenges again. Plus, I am feverishly playing “Soul Calibur IV,” and don’t have time for any other games at the moment (I even postponed my purchase of “PixelJunk Eden”).

However, this news will undoubtedly excite numerous Nathan Drake fans planning to re-live the events of the story-driven adventure.

If for some reason you haven’t played the game, I highly recommend it. You won’t get a revolutionary experience, but the gameplay is solid and the graphics are gorgeous. It may have been the first time I ever marveled at an environment in a videogame.

“Uncharted” marks a tremendous achievement in gaming, in which the folks at Naughty Dog have done something that few can do. They make you care about the characters.

Uncharted was supposed to be a day 1 purchase for me, as I loved the demo.. played it like 10 times.

Unfortunately for Naughty Dog, I bought an HDTV instead and I never got around to picking up the game. Now’s the perfect time to pick it up and start fresh. It’s already on the way up from the Amazon.

    • I plopped the game in yesterday to see the trophy system in action (you get a trophy for finding your first hidden treasure.)

That’s when I realized I played (and beat) the game back on my blurry-vision SDTV and not my 52″ HDTV. I’m probably going to play through this again just because of the night and day difference in how gorgeous the game is.

Only recently got the game and was holding off starting til the trophies arrived. Finally played it today and I’m enjoying it.

The transitions between gameplay and cutscenes are almost as good as MGS4 and I’m really impressed with the smoothness of the animations, especially when you’re walking around the submarine.

Wow, people really have not played this game? This is one of those games that you will remember near the end of the PS3 and say, “Man, you know what just came to mind, remember Uncharted?”. It’s amazing, I play it as often as I can, but sadly, you know how life is with MGS4 and all.
