Ok, there’s a lot to go through here, but basically, on top of the announcement of the PSP-3000, Sony unveiled a new 160GB PS3 SKU, a PS3 Keyboard with mouse input, a new music service for the PS3 and a way to transfer PS2 SingStar tracks over to the PS3. *Deep breath*.
Ok, well, if any of that interests you, I suggest you hit the jump.
Sony Announces new 160GB PS3
So 40 gigs isn’t enough for you huh? Well, tough guy, look what we have here: a new PS3 SKU from Sony that will boast, not 1, not 2, but 160GB of hard-drive-storage-goodness. With 160GB at your disposal, you could store….1…erm, carry the 2…..add the 16…put it over 12…..at least 2 copies of Everyday Shooter! The possibilities are literally endless finite. The new console will be launched out of a cannon on October 30, and will hit Europe on October 31, complete with €70 of pre-loaded content for a hefty €449. SCEA devised their own dastardly delicious 160GB SKU bundle for North America that comes with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, a voucher for PAIN on PSN and a DualShock 3. It will retail for $499.99 and be available in November.
The new SKU has the same features as the other models i.e. no backwards compatibility, 2 USB ports and no card reader.
I personally feel sorry for the video game retailers, having to advertise all these ever changing SKUs and whatnot.
Sony unveils Wireless Keypad with Mouse Compatibility

Phew! For a second there I thought the Keypad was going to look shoddy and poor. Lucky that didn't happen.
What you see up there, above this text, is a Wireless Keypad that clips onto the top of the PS3, and allows you to enjoy much tapping of keys, without having to plug a grotty, grease encrusted USB keyboard into the front of your console. ‘Ahhhhhh! I can’t see any touchpad functionality!’. That’s probably what you just yelled at your monitor, when you saw that I hadn’t mentioned any touchpad functionality, well I’ll give you a few seconds to recollect yourself (you yelled so hard that you blew up) and calm down, because I have some very big news.
Done?
Here goes: The Wireless Keypad has touchpad functionality. *cacophony of applause*. Upon pressing a special button, the main key area is magically transformed into a touchpad, for your touching enjoyment. Just tap to click, and your away, free to search the World Wide Webitude all by your own. Feels good doesn’t it?
The Keypad is also a Bluetooth device that can be used with a highly intelligent phone (or a smart phone), as well as other portable devices. Woop de Woo!
Bored? But we’ve only just got started! There’s more on the next page.

that keyboard looks fugly!
@Eddiemilz
Sorry Im gonna have to disagree with you. I think it looks pretty good and the way its fitted onto the controller is great.
Nice to see theirs a button which takes you right to your messages section saves having to go through the XMB.
@ajnikia,
yeah the functionality seems good, and it looks well fitted, and i’m sure it’ll work well… just imo looks ugly! – but i guess looks arn’t what makes a good peice of kit.
i’ll still get one, if they’re the right price
Can anyone tell me why it’s so wonderful that the keyboard has a touchpad so you can navigate?
Does it stop the analog sticks, or the d-pad from working, or they can’t be used to move a cursor on the screen?
Very well written article.
According to the latest info, the Singstar tracks are not rippable, but a “swap disc” feature will be added to PS3 Singstar that will let you play your PS2 Singstar tracks _from disc_. You won’t be able to upload them to My Singstar due to pesky licensing issues and contrary to earlier reports, there is no firmware update needed, simply a Singstar update. Also, according to official comments on the PS Blog, Singstar PS3 will be getting Trophy support early next year.
@Rothbart
Ok smart guy, why not write the article yourself?
