PixelJunk Monsters, as those of you who have played it will know, is really, really hard. Near-impossible. Horribly frustrating. There is nothing worse than lasting 19 out of 20 attack phases only to have one stray monster stroll in and ruin your perfect record. And this happens a lot.
Thankfully, help is at hand. Hit the jump for more on Monsters‘ future patch, as well as some new info on Eden’s future.
A blogger at gaming site TheBBPS wrote an open e-mail to Q-Games executive producer, claiming that his wife loves Monsters but found it that little bit too hard to play from time to time. Taking the comments on board, the PixelJunk developer has announced that a future free-of-charge patch will upgrade the tower-defence puzzler to include adjustable difficulty settings. With the patch applied you’ll be able to make the game that bit easier for yourself, or even harder if you’ve got some sort of death wish.
To keep things fair in the online leaderboards, only games played on the default difficulty will be counted for rankings. Still, as a way of easing into how to play Monsters properly, it’s the way to go.
The producer also hinted at expansions coming to the third game in the PJ series, the newly-released Eden. Rather than keep the game’s swinging mechanics to “one set of game rules” (ie: collecting ‘Spectra’ tokens throughout the level; see my video walkthrough of the game if that doesn’t make any sense) there will also be a future patch to introduce new game modes.
Hopefully this will be a compulsory patch rather than an optional, purchasable piece of downloadable content. One of these modes will apparently be a more “namby-pamby” mode for ‘lighter’ players out there: some sort of sandbox mode where you’re free to swing around as much as you like? It’d be a bit odd, considering you can essentially do this anyway as long as you keep the timer going.
Either way, it’s good to see Q-Games supporting their games long after their original release, and it’s even better to see them listening to their fans and replying with enthusiasm: the executive producer at Q-Games replied to the email received within 25 minutes. That’s what I call customer service.

Really excited about this and will pick it up even if I have to pay for it. I like Pixel Junk Monsters but I always thought it had a ridiculously steep difficulty curve so hopefully when this comes along I’ll enjoy it even more.

I have to admit eden, and monsters are quite difficult, and at times frustrating. this should help.
