As I documented a couple of months ago, SCEE has been putting a fair bit of effort into promoting multimedia content on the PlayStation 3. One such piece of work which has emerged from their toil is Movement, an indie music documentary series based around a couple of guys tootling around Europe in a VW Camper van, finding the best bands from across the continent and picking their favorites.
After a little hunt I found Spencer and Martin, the two blokes in question, and had a chat to them about how their double act started, how Movement came about and what they’ve got lined up for the future.
SG: How did you two meet and start the whole ‘Spencer and Martin’ double act?
Martin: We met in the dole [SG: unemployment benefit in the UK] queue a bit like UB40 did. In fact they were just in front of us talking about red wine. They asked us to join them but we like drinking alcopops so it would have never worked.
Spencer: He’s lying. We met at Glastonbury festival. His friends were playing in a band on stage and I didn’t know [he knew them]. I started talking to Marts about them and said I thought they were toilet. He kept quiet until I had finished my rant, then told me he knew the lead singer. We have been firm acquaintances ever since.
SG: What’s the deal with PlayStation? How did Movement start?
S: We got completely lucky. I was working as a researcher at MTV a while ago and someone had seen some online comedy sketches I had done and asked me in for an audition. They wanted to know if I had a comedy partner and I lied and told them Martin was the man. We auditioned, Martin was funny in the meeting and we got the job.
M: I was only funny because I had to make up for the fact I had a sweaty back.

Martin fails to see the funny side on the Paris leg of the Movement road trip.
The Movement interview continues over the page.
