Editor’s note: This blog post by Lucifers Jello is fresh off the SGC. Lucifers Jello disagrees with what was said on the Red show about the whole Fatal1ty and Penny Arcade fiasco. He compares Penny Arcade’s banning of Fatal1ty from PAX to the Sarcastic Gamer Parody songs, saying that Penny Arcade making fun of Fatal1ty is the same as when SG makes fun of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
Remember, If you want to get on the front page, then just swing by the forums and get writing. As always, we’ll be keeping a vigilant eye on the blogs for the cream of the crop, which will end up here. And now, over to Lucifers Jello…
If you’ve heard the latest show of The Sarcastic Gamer Podcast you will have heard the opinion of the crew when it comes to PAX kicking out Fatal1ty. I was blown away when I heard they where talking to him on the QuakeCon podcast. Why? Well because I’ve had several friends meet him and all of them told me that he was the douche of douches. As you can imagine, after hearing the QuakeCon podcast I’m not so sure who to believe.
That was until the recent event where PAX said that they’re not going to allow Fatal1ty into the building. I thought it was funny and didn’t care if they made him look like a jerk, but neither should he or anyone else. The Penny Arcade guys should be able to ban whoever they want and if they think Fatal1ty is a dick, then so be it. I find Penny Arcade putting out a press release about banning Fatal1ty, the same as you guys putting up videos to let everybody see you mocking products, made by companies, with a song. You may be hurting the companies’ street cred and that means you look down on everyone else and count money while smoking cigars. Penny Arcade owe Fatal1ty an apology as much as Sarcastic Gamer owes anyone else they have ever made fun of an apology i.e. not at all.
Well I think you know who I’m in support of, but what do you think about it and what do you SG fanboys think about me comparing them with PAX? Oh well I’ll just go back to smoking my cigars made out of cash and sitting on my mountain of gold, cause I think Fatal1ty’s an ass.
Thanks Lucifers Jello! Mmmmm, jello. I like orange jello… I bet Lucifer loves orange jello too.

I’d like to think going after a company like Sony or Microsoft is a bi different than going after a single person. (Unless that person is Valve’s Gabe….). I agree the act of publically announcing it for the “lulz” isn’t such a big deal, but if they do enforce it at PAX, then I do have a problem with that.
Regardless if he is a dick or not. And IMO, when it comes to certain FPS games, Fatal1ty kind of derserves to be a dick once in a while.

I’ve gotta say, as I (finally) listened to Red Show #51 a bit ago, I thought you guys were WAY off base with both your take on Fatal1ty’s reputation getting tarnished (any publicity is good publicity, remember) and of Penny Arcade’s attitude toward the whole thing. Those guys make jokes for a living. Not every joke goes over with the same amount of success as others… Ask Jack Tretton about his Jack Palance joke… you guys have launched some stinkers from time to time as well.
I thought it was pretty frickin’ funny to hear an announcement that Fatal1ty wouldn’t be at PAX. I’m sure nobody (on either side) is losing any sleep over that and I can’t see how you can think any worse of Fatal1ty after that… how is his reputation tarnished again?

Potentially offending Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo isn’t the same as potentially offending a single person.

I agree with Rothbart. It was a joke. A pretty funny one at that. Besides, he spells “Fatality” with a number. He deserves to be made fun of.

The companies don’t care about us. And making fun of things are part of podcasts.

Fatal1ty turned himself or was turned into a franchise, a rock-star symbol for eSports. Thus making fun of him is completely appropriate. If you are at the top you should be able to take a few hits.

I thought the PAX announcement was pretty funny. I had assumed it was a joke because of the little link on the Penny Arcade page before their “announcement” that said something like: “In response to this” with a little link to the E3 (or whatever event) announcement about Fatal1ty.
I had assumed it was a joke, and thought that it was odd that it was being taken seriously on the SG podcast.
Meh. Ah, well. Life goes on. Sometimes the joke is funny and sometimes it bombs.
