I own the PS3 version of Soul Calibur 4 and installation is mandatory. Also, I thought the PS3 version had a bit shorter load times because of it. At least that is what I have been hearing around the interwebs.

The PS3 installation is completely optional. It is not mandatory. You can go to the options menu to “install” and “uninstall.”
