Halo 3 Expansion Details Leaked… Fanboys aren’t happy.

August 22nd, 2008 · 12 Comments

The announcement that was pulled from E3 at the last minute (much to Bungie’s annoyance after having a count down on their website that ended with no announcement being made) but it seems that you can not contain the truth -it will come out if you like it or not. An expansion is coming to Halo 3.

It seems as though Microsoft were right to pull the announcement from E3 though, as Halo Fanboys have reacted badly to the early details.

See all the details after the jump…Who could have predicted the negative reaction to Bungie’s announcement of an expansion to Halo 3? Not many, but then few could have predicted that it was being outsourced to another game developer, namely Treyarch.

That’s right: Halo 3 is going back to World War Two!

A Treyarch spokesperson was quoted as saying the game:

“Will feature a more mature theme than previous installments in the series. Swimming elements will be introduced to the series for the first time in single player and multiplayer. While in water, the player cannot sprint and will only move at half speed. Flamethrowers, (first introduced in Halo 3) will be reintroduced with new flammable environments. The game will be slightly more open-ended than previous games in the series, as there will be multiple ways to complete missions.”

News has been pulled from Bungie.net very quickly with the website getting a record number of complaints, but details copied from Treyarch website went into further detail:

“Players fight as U.S. Marines facing enemies that employ lethal new tactics and know no fear, no mercy, nor the rules of war. Epic conflicts are fought on multiple fronts, playing through the climactic battles of WWII in the grittiest, most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date”

Apparently Treyarch don’t see this as a problem, but fanboys have bombarded Treyarch website with complaints and they have been quick to respond. The following quote is lifted directly from IGN’s website;

It’s something that Mark Lamia, Treyarch’s studio head, understands. “People don’t want to play the same World War II game that they’ve played before,” he told us, Treyarch wants to redefine what to expect from a World War II shooter.”

I’m not convinced and it looks like a lot of other fans who have been loyal to the series up till now will have their patience tested to it’s absolute limit.

Oh and you’ll split time between the Arbiter too…

      ?,?,?…????????????????
      What the hell are yout talking about! Maybe it’s because you have the sense of humour equel to a fire ant or you’re 5. The fact that it’s press releases are the same as Treyarch IS the joke! And on the fact that any idiot can get a website(mightymutt, you’re not a idiot, don’t listen to him, this was one of the best FF’s to date) maybe you should get some more perspective on the matter because SG is one of the finest gaming website’s to date and they do a lot of hardwork, getting 3 podcasts out a week, numerous articles and lots more for fun, not paid to, so get a little less ignorant you stupid idiot.

      I’m not a picky one, even if this expansion sucks, it’s fine because to me Halo 3 is fine as is, and the only way it could be messed up would be if they removed the old campaign and added dumb ones, same with multi maps, but as long as they only add new maps or make minor changes/changes that are for the good on maps, then it’s all cool. Everyone has an opnion, although I might disagree with MightyMutt, even though I haven’t seen too much for the expansion, I won’t get on his case, it’s his or the websites opinion.
