Guitar Hero is looking to out do Rock Band 2 in every way with Guitar Hero: World Tour. Upgraded and more realistic guitars and drums, as well as a master track list that runs neck and neck with Rock Band 2. Let’s not forget that you’ll also be able to create your own music with this bad boy. That’s not all. Activision has announced in a press release that they found a way to make the experience get even realer.
Sadly, I’m not talking about sex crazed groupies.
In true Spinal Tap fashion, Guitar Hero says that they are “cranking it to 11″ by allowing your in game characters to get corporate sponsorship. Selling out? Nope. When you’re a poor traveling musician doing a wide variety of cover songs, money is welcome from all angles. The sponsorships are not from Gregs Guitar World. It seems like Activision decided to allow almost any and everyone involved with the making or selling of musical instruments to throw their logo into the game.
Gamers can score in-game sponsorships and gear from AMPEG, Audio-Technica, EMG Pickups, Ernie Ball, Evans Drumheads, Guitar Center, Krank Amplification, Mackie, Marshall, Orange County Drum & Percussion, Pork Pie Percussion, Regal Tip, Sabian cymbals, Vox and Zildjian drumsticks.
Look for the Rock Band camp to respond with an announcement that they now have The Pillsbury Dough Boy, Ronald McDonald, and The Double Mint Twins as unlockable characters.
Seriously though, I would love to see the zeros on the checks that Activision took to the bank for these companys to get their names in the game.

That’s cool, but I’m still not going to pay 200 extra dollars when I can buy the Rockband CD and nothing else. They need to make the rockband guitars backwards compatible.
uh what
this isn’t news
guitar hero has done this since the first game
Just as long as Rock Band does not let The Hamburglar be a sponsor. That would really tick off chewy gone evil.
Cranking it to 11? Adding more “sponsors” (aka, having a screen popping up saying you are sponsored by ernie ball strings) taking it to 11. Maybe get your DLC in line with the competition, that could get you to 11, but good luck with that.
@Dave
“Look for the Rock Band camp to respond with an announcement that they now have The Pillsbury Dough Boy, Ronald McDonald, and The Double Mint Twins as unlockable characters.”
Really, don’t you remember Guitar Hero 3 being covered in AXE Body Spray stickers? Rock Band is about music, not sponsors, not being an ad billboard, it’s about music. And also you can’t compare Guitar Hero’s song list to Rock Band’s when they haven’t even released it yet, probably because it isn’t done yet.
@samer the rockband guitar’s and drums will be compatible with guitar hero world tour…mind you the hardware for gh world tour looks alot better than the original rockband hardware…
@monty
Yeah but the Rockband 2 hardware looks pretty sweet too…and has a built in light sensor and mic to auto calibrate
RK1, i’m pretty sure the ernie ball sting ad was also in guitar hero 2 which was developed by harmonix. harmonix are the people who own RB. also you need to get your head out of the toilet, video games are about money and nothing else
@Aaron
Yes there were those Ernie Ball ads in GH2 (PS2) which was done by Harmonix, but did Harmonix come out saying “Rock Band 2 is cranking it to 11 by allowing your in game characters to get corporate sponsorship.” No they didn’t. Sorry Activision, but don’t try and tell us something that was already in the game is going to “crank it to 11″ this time around. Oh and Aaron, maybe you should get your head out of the toilet, you are the one looking at the sh*tty perspective on videos games.
