I love it when mainstream media dips its toe into the video game pond. It’s virtually always ill-informed, off target, and about a year late in reporting on things.
Today, Fox News took that to a whole new level as it reported on the “Brand New” Army recruiting tool, America’s Army.
Share your thoughts and hear mine, after the jump.
I really don’t care about America’s Army. It’s a shitty game both in its free and commercial offerings. It used to be fun, and I have to admit I spent many an hour waiting silently for my next kill. I loved the cross-platform play between PC and Macs, but the game has been left in the dust by games like Call of Duty 4. There’s no keeping up for AA.
What I do care about is how horribly misinformed and uninformed these professional journalists are about the fastest growing and highest grossing form of entertainment in the world. At what point are news organizations going to catch on and stop assigning the guy who stands in hurricanes to talk about how the wind is blowing really hard, to cover a story about gaming?
America’s Army is OLD NEWS. VERY VERY OLD NEWS. There are probably kids that weren’t born when the game came out who are now playing it (you know there’s at least one out there)
Sorry big boys, but you’re missing the boat and numerous chances to be hip… with it.

*sobing* WHY!! WHY!!! Fox news why do you make me cry when I listen to your stupidity!! O god… why. It makes me want to vomit when I listen to them.
8 Million Players Online?!? LMAO
I’m sorry but if FOX News is so against this “game”, why at the end do they say where they are going to be next so people can play the “game”.
The y aren’t talking about America’s Army, they’re talking about a new game, Virtual Army Experience. It’s under the America’s Army name, but it’s different. You’ll figure this out if you read when it said “First came the America’s Army Game”
*Sigh* The first part was talking about how “real” games are. The only game showing is GTA4. What if they showed footage from LittleBig Planet? Is that video game “real”?
Wow the video has nothing to do with America’s Army… and it’s actually about a traveling exhibit of a new game. Hmmm… odd post
yeah, Virtual Army Experience is actually more about some big kiosk-like setup the Army recruiters put together with replica Humvees and other vehicles to create a “virtual” mission setting. http://vae.americasarmy.com/
Reverse Bell for Doc?
Awesome, it turns out Doc doesn’t have a freaking clue what he’s talking about. It could be that he was just reading too fast…ok maybe WAY too fast, and missed that this was actually about something new, but it’s fun to fling some crap back at him.
Ha. Gotta love the irony. Ill informed media, anyone?
Wow. Second time Fox News have screwed up. Admittedly, AA never worked for my laptop so I never played it. Doc is right, AA has been out for ages (I checked my sources people) but apprantly Fox News was having a slow news day, like when BBC was talking about Manhunt 2, that was a slow news day for them.
well see this is where aa will hopefully come back with the release of AA3.0 later this year or early next, and there not talking about the pc game there talking about the travaling game show yes the game started at 1.0 a long time ago i started 4 years ago with 1.5 and now im at 2.8.2 and its kept up with the people who cant run high graphics and havn’t got the money to spend on games like cod 4
Get your facts straight. This isn’t about America’s Army. It’s about a travelling exhibit that uses some of the America’s Army and related production.
It is a new story, if you dumb-ass gamers could realize that things actually happen outside of 3D graphics. (Read: creating a physical travelling exhibit is a *new* thing – even if it uses some technology from an older game.)
