Remember Sony’s Eye Pet? Remember Eight Days? Or, more importantly, do you remember when Eight Days was cancelled? Well it turns out that both of London Studio’s games, Eight Days and The Getaway 3, were cancelled to make room for…Eye Pet.
…
…
Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony’s worldwide studios, disclosed that Eye Pet had caused work on Eight Days and The Getaway to cease.
The reason for this bizarre decision seems to be down to resource management, with Yoshida saying
“Yes, there are so many things that we want to do, more than we can do with the resources. So when London Studio was looking at the early work on EyePet and the prototype of Eight Days, they knew they couldn’t do all of them”
For those of you who can’t remember, Eight Days was originally announced at E3 2006 as a third person action game. It looked set to be pretty good, with an impressive trailer and complex storyline which allowed you to play as either a goodie or a baddie, with your chosen character’s plot linking in with the unchosen’s The game’s name comes from its structure, in which you play in eight different US states, over eight different days. Much like S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, the game’s clock was based on the real life time, so logging on at night, would result in a night setting in-game.
Oh, you wanted to see that impressive trailer from E3 2006? Your wish is my command.
However, that damn monkey was not the sole reason for Eight Day’s cancellation, with Yoshida also stating the lack of online, as another factor.
Could this be the first sign of Sony’s move towards the ‘casual’ gamer? With the cancellation of a promising looking ‘hardcore’ shooter, in order to continue development on a stupid monkey simulator, it’s certainly a possibility.

Not to defend the wrong guy here, but there may be a reason for what they are doing? If they had technical difficulties and could keep their promises, this would be a good excuse, instead of saying “Hey, we couldn’t pull it off… sorry guys”
And more casual games for the kids isn’t that bad idea, if more families buy a ps3, more companies will make games for PS3, and the hardcore games will get center of attention again. I think it isn’t that easy, saying “that monkey canceled Eight Days, it’s just a big cover up, because the moon landing never actually happened… BELIEVE ME!!
