As a regular reader of this site you probably have already seen our Wii Music twisted trailer a couple of days ago. It seems that people kind of like it. The sarcasm was felt around the interwebs and most people agreed with our take wholeheartedly. Not all. There have been a few responses that have been in defense of this fine, fine game.
Really???
Do we need to go down the list of reasons why this game is going to smell like something you don’t want to step in? Before we begin, this is not a fanboy slamming the Wii, I won’t bring graphics or children’s games into it at all.
First off, if you are fan of music games, can you actually name a time when you would rather play Yankee Doodle over and over again verses Paint It Black on Guitar Hero? If you can, you either have horrible taste in music or you’re five years old and still crapping your pants.
Second, what sounds more appealing? Flailing your arms around like a fool hoping that you can create a crappy midi remix of a 200 hundred year old song, or shredding on one of the many customizable guitar designs out there. The lack of an actual drum set might be a little confusing. I’m not sure if you watched the Nintendo E3 press conference, but even the drumming “expert” failed… hilariously.
Let us not forget the lack of a singing aspect. The songs in Wii Music don’t even have lyrics for crying out loud. With Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour (when it comes out) when you and your friends are in party mode, you can make one of them sing and laugh about it later. Or you can video tape it and put it all over the internet. It really is the little things in life that make it all worth it.
Song selection and game play or lack there of is more than enough evidence to prove that this is the D student of rhythm gaming. If you can bring up a reason why you would play this game, I’m all ears. Don’t say, “my kids”. I’m talking about the hardcore gamer inside you that screams, ” I want to play Wii Music!” If that voice actually exists, your previous hardcore craving must have been electronic poker.
That’s right electronic poker, I just called you out.
