Too Human, you sick of it yet? If you are, you’re probably a grumpy podcaster that hasn’t played the game yet, whose names rhyme with Bave and Boc. If you’re like the rest of us, playing Too Human ’til the sun comes up, you’ve probably said this out loud at least more than once: “What the heck does ‘Soothing’ do?” or “Is ‘Rupture’ any good?” Unfortunately, the booklet that comes with the game is lacking even the most basic of definitions of most status effects in the game, but fear not, because I have the answer. Well, at least some answers. Okay, okay… I have a dictionary. It’s still cool though, I promise!
After the jump!
I found a handy, dandy website detailing everything you may have wanted to know about Too Human, but were afraid to ask. It’s called Toohuman.wikia.com and you can research anything you want in the game, but here’s some of the highlights:
Soothing: Makes enemies less likely to attack you. (Really only useful in co-op.)
Rupture: On contact, adds possibility of explosive damage on attacks.
Hybrid Damage: Plasma rifle and pistol damage.
Dexterity: Adds to your base ranged damage.
Strength: Adds to your base melee damage. (Probably obvious, but now you know for sure.)
Enthalpy Drain: On contact, there is a chance of freezing the target for a short duration.
Check it out and ensure that you’ll never discard a Sword with +10% Rupture again. Yes, I have just reached a new low of nerdity, but who cares, I just got my first epic red armor loot drops last night, suck on that newb!

My buddy and I were asking the same damn questions. So he went and bought a guide, it still doesn’t have everything. This game is massive and threatens to destroy my life. I’ve only played with 2 of the classes and only 1 is level 50.
Hey all! Not trying to mess up your work Lono, but I found this Too Human Wiki last night and it was a lot of help with all of the status effects and other stuff… It doesn’t have everything, but it was better than the lack of info provided in game…
http://toohuman.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Hey chopperDave00, that’s the exact same link I put into the article…
ha this is good. Thanks Lono , now when we play co-op I won’t have to bug you asking if I should keep a sword of soothing empathy and rooting. Good find.
Payday tomorrow. . . Too Human tomorrow. More and more it sounds like Diablo 2 on steroids – I can’t wait.
HAHA sorry Lono, for some reason the link did not show up on my screen. It just had a blank space there and of course the picture up top didn’t show up either. I went to a coworkers computer and both were there. Prolly some stupid add-on or something. Please file me under Dumb and ignore me.
This of course is another example of why I think reviews are so mixed. Some just see an item drop and think it’s ultimately better and thus makes what you used to have pointless like the reviewers at Gamespot and 1up, while others that may see a new weapon that does more damage but doesn’t have near the bonuses of their existing weapon.
I guess in the end SK’s big mistake was not making the game easier to see the depth for the regular joe. Or did they hide it on purpose but too well? How does WoW allow hardcore people to get so crazy about the spreadsheets with skills/equipment to create the optimal build yet still hold the casual person that just runs daily quests and chats with friends? /shakes head
It is b/c the casual wow players never break mid-level where things are nice and simple and safe. WoW can just be a big, open world rpg if you choose it too where pvp and equip stats don’t matter. Just stay to what level 30 or so? It is the first mmorpg that in my opinion made room for casual players.
I picked up too human last night, but spent all my gaming time on castle crashers. . .
and sorry for the immediate 2nd post, but diablo II was like this too. . . you basically played that thing with the strategy guide in your lap so you could find out exactly what your “blighted longsword of the bear” did. Games have quickly outpaced the developers ability/budget to document them completely. . .
In World of Warcraft, everything is laid out in front of you. Instead of “+10% Rupture” You’ve got “+4 Strength, +4 Stamina, Chance on Hit: Hits the enemy with a fire ball for 10 to 15 damage”
Plus, with instant DPS tracking, and instant stat tracking, it’s alot easier for the ‘regular joe’ to know what’s good and what’s not. When you equip an item, you can instantly see its effects on your personal DPS, Crit Chance, resistances, etc.. Too Human doesn’t have that instant tracking right in the inventory screen.
Oh, so I shouldn’t have thrown the extra swords I had with Soothing or Rupture on it.
Really, this is the one annoyance. I wish like Mass Effect, you had like an ‘i’ button to get more info about any item.
