Chrono Trigger launches November 25

August 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Do you like triggers? “Yes, though not the type of triggers on real guns or anything else that could be remotely dangerous,” the entire Sarcastic Gamer reader base chants back. Do you like chrono, or, more specifically, chronological ordering? ‘Hell yeah, it’s totally rad!’ the cacophony of voices reply.

Well I have got the perfect news for you. Myself and the SG Staff team have been hard at work over the past 6 months creating a complete history of triggers that have featured on game controllers, it’s 500 pages, but-

What? What do you mean that’s not what this post is about? Oh really? The history of triggers was a joke, and I was the only person who actually made it? You burnt it? But I put my best ribbon on it. Ok ok, fine, just don’t make me change the intro…

Contrary to earlier sentences, I have exciting news to report: Chrono Trigger is gonna be released on November 25, 2008.

All the delicious details can be found after the pole vault, or alternatively, if you’re really good, you could just jump it.

That’s right folks, the SNES classic has been remade for the DS and is hitting store shelves this November. We already knew the game existed, but thanks to the wonders of Square Enix press releases, we now know a lot more about it.

Story wise, Square had this to say:

‘When a newly developed teleportation device malfunctions at the Millennial Fair, young Crono must travel through time to rescue his misfortunate companion from an intricate web of past and present perils. The swashbuckling adventure that ensues soon unveils an evil force set to destroy the world, triggering Crono’s race against time to change the course of history and bring about a brighter future.’

There’s not much to note from that, other than the use of the word ’swashbuckling’, which has to be the second great word ever, right behind ’sausages’.

Although the game is a remake, it boasts new dungeons and an Arena mode, the latter of which I’m guessing is a survival tournament against many of the games enemies, with monetary rewards, but we don’t know anything solid just yet.

The game will also have touch screen functionality, which could just be for navigating menus, or something much more exciting.

This will be the first time that Chrono Trigger has been released in Europe, but unfortunately it looks like we’ll have to wait until 2009. So while our American friends are Chrono Triggering their Thanksgiving away, us here in Europe will be stuck eating cold porridge…

Literally. I have no electricity. Help.

It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t get relased in Europe later, since the DS is region free. I’m getting this sucker shipped to Sweden as soon as possible after the North American release.

I am just going to emulate the original. Cheaper, less stress and a bigger resolution! It’s a great game, but I stick to Mario on the SNES lol
