Oh those sneaky bastards at EA. I thought this DLC addition to Battlefield: Bad Company wasn’t hitting until Friday night, and I thus used up all of my official Wifey gameplay credits last night in Gold Rush mode. Come to find out, the update hit today adding the Battlefield-signature Conquest mode to the multiplayer menu.
Son of a….
The important aspect of this development has nothing to do with it’s four modified maps or the revamped tactics players will need to use to excel with them. No friends, what we have here is far more compelling than that.
The content is F-R-E-E.
Free like most of Dave’s wardrobe.
Free like Rothbart’s barber shop tab.
We’ve come a long way from the original financial venue that EA was building for this game. Previously, it was expected that you would pay for each of several weapons in the game in order to have a competitive arsenal at your disposal. After the hubub surrounding that fiasco got louder than Lono singing “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, they paraded DICE out to explain that there was a misunderstanding, rather than owning up to their greedy little scheme.
In any event, what’s done is done. You get the Gold Edition weapons free at level 25 in the game, and this awesome update, to what has become my favorite game of 2008 thus far (yeah… there I said it), is also on the house.
10 bucks says the 4 maps included are the tip of the iceberg lettuce. There will be more maps for the mode that will cost money. I can feel my wallet tingling already. Sadly, I will pay it like the mindless Battlefield addict that I am.
In other news, Battlefield Bad Company has officially become the first game I have ever bought an ADDITIONAL copy of. When the Gold disc got scratched in an “accident” where Wifey “tripped” over the network cable, I went out and grabbed another copy. I still suspect foul play as there had recently been a discussion about garbage being taken out that I only caught half of, since I was, of course, playing BFBC.
