Quick as ever to cash in on the next big thing, Activision have announced that Treyarch will be developing a side-project at the same time as the upcoming Call of Duty: World of War. Reflecting on the current global obsession with social networking, Myspace: The Game will “test all witty, internet-savvy teenagers to the limit in a bid to discover who the true king or queen of shameless internet posing will be.”

Myspace: The Game is officially licensed by News Corporation (who also promise The Times: The Game, in which one must take on the role of a stringent news editor, to be released soon) and is set from within the website completely, with authentic adverts that shriek “HELLOOOO” when you roll over them and all of the real Myspace’s features.
Playing the game, according to Treyarch’s Joseph Joe, is as simple as browsing the website itself. “You see here,” he murmured, his eyes narrow with intense concentration on the task at hand, “if I click on ‘Profile’ here, it brings up my profile, just like real life. If I then scroll down and look at my friends’ comments and click on their pictures, it brings up their own profiles too. The realism of Myspace: The Game will be pretty astonishing.”

A typical profile inside Myspace: The Game. It looks just like the real thing, with realistic types of friends to add. Click for a bigger size.
Joe described how Myspace will be playable on or offline, either adding random strangers from the internet (”It’s the sort of thing that happens for real so we figured we’d emulate it in the game”) or through making and breaking online friendships with AI buddies, varying from nerdy profile experts to shallow, self-absorbed whores posing in bikinis.
Your own character can be created at the start using a character creation system similar to MySims, allowing clothes, hair, accessories, male eye make-up and more to be adjusted to create your perfect Myspace drone.
How can Treyarch make social networking competitive though? Joe has the answer, over the page.
