Some days, I feel like there are as many people writing about video games as there are people playing them. It’s unreal how many gaming blogs and websites seem to pop up every week. Too much of the content generated by newcomers simply regurgitation of mainstream content.
Within all of that congestion I have found some favorite writers that I’d thought I would share here. Some you’ve heard of. Some you haven’t. Before anyone gets all uppity about the composition of my list, let’s all try and remember this…
It’s MY fucking list.
The lineup after the jump.
Jim Sterling – Destructoid
Okay I lied. I DO have a favorite writer, and he’s first (the rest are randomly ordered I swear to Christ.)
Jim has the rare ability to be ridiculous, over the top, and deadly serious at the same time. Jim can say more in 300 words than a lot of bloggers could hope to in a week. Some of my recent favorites include Jim weighing on the Fat Princess, his take on improvements being made to Alone in the Dark, and his hilarious impalement of Denis Dyack.
Kiki Lewis – The Blue Skittle
Each week, Kiki Lewis breaks down the walls of gamer stereotypes by publishing one of my favorite columns in gaming over on The Blue Skittle. With “The Other Me” Kiki demonstrates that gamers are as diverse as the games they play. Instead of writing articles for gamers, she turns gamers into her articles, and with each biography we not only learn more about her subjects, but about the author herself.
Owen Good – Kotaku
This guy is just a frickin writing animal. While the weekday staff at “The Big Blog” are off pursuing lives and taking soy cooking classes, Owen seems to be left to watch the shop over the weekend. It doesn’t seem to matter how many posts the dude cranks out in a 48 hr window, they are all succinct, clear, and funny. Kotaku’s just lucky that we’re broke here at Sarcastic Gamer. I would SO steal this dude.
3 down, 2 to go. Keep reading on page 2.

Am also a fan of Jeff Gertsmann etc
Then Geoff Keighley is pretty good on camara
I dig Ludwig Kietzmann’s posts over on Joystiq. That dude can write.
Yeah definitely Ludwig Kietzmann
I agree with the majority of your list except I would have Jeff green at the top of my list. he is by far my favorite writer.
awesome picks, all have a cool idividual style. I like articles like this cause it gives me an idea of who you like. Cause I dig your sense of humor Doc.
kinda creepy truth and justice…lol just kidding
hmm…i dont read many other blog sites other than this one, ill have to check those writers out!
…where am I?
Definitely agreeing with this list, although as Eagle Eye pointed out I’d have Gertsmann in there too.
Doc thanks for the Props for Kiki. She has definitely taken that section of the magazine and made it her own. There are so many diverse people that game and she likes to share that with our readers.
Your other choices are great choices too, I just checked them all out.
btw that comes out once a month.
What about McLovin? :-p
Ahh sweet! I thought my mom was the only one I convinced to read anything I wrote
If anyone has a hobby or special interest they want me ramble on about.. let me know… Always looking for more people to show off ot the world
i almost never read the name of the guy who write what i read….except for here at sarcastic gamer, good article LONO…..joking i know it was DOC.
It’s incredibly sad and pathetic to respond to an article that namechecks you, I think.
But I’m a rampant hypocrite, so it’s okay.
This post has already added to my considerable ego, and for that I thank you Doc. <3
