Okay, for all intents and purposes, E3’s pretty much over. The announcements have been announced, the press conferences have been pressed (or conferred?) While we sort through the aftermath of it all, I have one question left… Where The Wipeout At?
Wipeout is a signature Playstation franchise… Sony’s shown it to the press already, we know it’s running at 1080p, 60fps, with 5.1 surround sound, features online 8-player multiplayer, has a photo mode… we know it’s slated to be a downloadable PSN title… we know it’s supposed to be near completion. What we don’t know is why it wasn’t shown at E3?
Is there something wrong with it? Is it coming out very soon and they couldn’t be bothered with an E3 build? It hasn’t even been mentioned as “coming soon,” so my spidey senses are starting to tingle. Well, in all fairness, my ass is half asleep. Maybe I should get up and walk around the office for a few minutes.
I get concerned when games go silent, especially when they’re supposed to be released in short order. Checking the official Wipeout HD website was no help. In fact, that makes the problem worse because it just hypes the game even more, making me want to play it now. Sony… listen… let us know what’s going on here. It looks like it was practically done when 1UP previewed it what seems like forever ago. oh, look at that, the 1UP preview page lists TWO DAYS AGO as the release date for the game… not only did it not release, it’s as if it didn’t exist. E3… where Sony is supposed to be pimping their exclusive upcoming games… not a peep.
Grrr! I’m going for a walk… to wake my ass up.
There, I feel better now. Oh, what’s this? A “specific technical problem” is the cause for delay? Oh. Thanks for that info. Wait… it’s… “a really, really tricky technical problem” that was “very difficult to get to grips with.” Oh, I’m glad I know now. What’s the hell Sony?!?! It appears almost ready to go now loudmouth Reeves is hinting that “it will come out before the end of the year.” What kind of deal breaking, specific, really, really tricky technical problem that no region has been able to solve is delaying your game now that will not be delaying it into next year? Do you have your B Team working on Wipeout HD? Your C Team? Pfft! I wish I was still oblivious to the fact the game wasn’t out yet… having this drawn to my attention is just going to dig at me, I know it.

I was looking forward to this game until I found out there’s only a handful of tracks, and that they’re withholding them for future DLC, If I’m paying for a game I want the full game, micro-transactions can go to hell.

It is strange that it got no mention. I saw it on the 1Up show and it looked almost ready to go so they could have brought something to E3, even if it’s just a 5 second glimpse as part of the PSN sizzle reel.

Shane86… it’s a mid-priced/mid-sized game… it’s going to be $40. You’re going up against the same argument as Warhawk, GT5P, SOCOM: Confrontation, etc.
If you wanna pay $60, I’m sure you’ll end up with more than 8 levels… otherwise, you get 8 for $40.
