“Rock Band 2,” the sequel to Harmonix’s 2007 smash-hit, is no doubt one of the most hotly-anticipated titles of the fall season. In the weeks following the game’s official announcement, a few play testers revealed a multitude of songs that would supposedly ship with the game. Until now, these leaked set lists were merely rumors. However, Harmonix has gone ahead and revealed the entire set list for the game.
Hit the jump for the list.
“Rock Band 2″ will feature a total of 84 songs (all master recordings). The list is impressive to say the least, and includes legendary acts such as the AC/DC, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, Jane’s Addiction, Megedeth, Metallica and Rush. “Rock Band 2″ will release for the 360 in September and later in the year for the PS3, PS2 and Wii. All DLC that was purchased for the original game will be compatible with “Rock Band 2,” as will the original instruments.
Harmonix is also planning to supplement the 84 songs that will ship with the “Rock Band 2″ disc with free DLC. This additional content will push the set list past the century mark, as 20 songs will become available after the game’s release. None of the songs have been revealed as of yet, but if the on-disc set list is any indication, they are going to be killer.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for early adopters, Harmonix has announced that owners of the original “Rock Band” will not have to worry about swapping discs during their lengthy play sessions. Joystiq reports that “Rock Band content from the discs will be transferable to the sequel” for a fee of “under 5 dollars.” This means that you will be able to play most of the songs from the original title in “Rock Band 2.” I was hoping the original tracks would become free DLC, but for such a low price, I don’t think “Rock Band” owners will have any second thoughts about transferring the content.

They may have lost a sale here with me. There’s maybe 10% of the list that I’d be interested in.
Of course I’m equally apathetic with regards to Red Octane’s announcements, though I am glad to see they seem willing to fight a little.

I am the opposite reaction of Kiltman, that set list is sick imo. A better song from Nirvana, Elvis Costello and Devo would have been nice, but I see a lot to like there.

I really hope I can still use a guitar hero guitar because I would buy that just for chop suey by system of a down!
Possibly my all time favorite song

Oh lawd this list is great! For the 11 year old girls who need american idol to tell them what music is! I mean come on. Panic at the disco? Disturbed? WTF? Seriously, if you have any of these songs on your ipod, just throw it in a fire. It’s for your own good.

Not a bad list. And it has something for everyone. Even Doc can “rock out” to “We Got The Beat”!
