Starting today, a bunch of PS3’s finest titles (the ones that sold really well anyway) will relaunch in shiny shiny red Blu-ray cases under the new “Greatest Hits” tagline for the low, low price of $29.99. For a list of those titles in full, hit the jump.
For your 30 bucks, you can pick up any of the following from the listed publishers:
- Sony Computer Entertainment America: Warhawk, Motorstorm, Resistance: Fall of Man
- Activision: Call of Duty 3
- EA: Fight Night Round 3, Need for Speed: Carbon
- Ubisoft: Rainbow Six Vegas, Assassin’s Creed
- Bethesda: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Tecmo: Ninja Gaiden Sigma
There’s no news on any future titles to be re-released with the Greatest Hits tagline and budget price, so that’s your lot for now. I suppose it’s a start (and it’s about time, since the PS3’s been available Stateside for 2 years this fall) so the only way for the Greatest Hits range to go is up.
In Europe, you can expect your equivalent Platinum range to launch on the 1st August at the standard Platinum price of £19.99/€29.99. Along with Resistance and Motorstorm, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune will form the first-party line up from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, and will be accompanied by Sega’s Virtua Tennis 3 and the aforementioned Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft.
Naturally the Greatest Hits and Platinum ranges will vary due to distribution differences and sales figures changing from territory to territory: it’s obvious Uncharted did as well in Europe as Warhawk did in the states, hence their budget-price revivals.
That’s your lot then. Dig into your wallets if there’s anything there you want, as it’ll cost you tuppence from now on.

Great that they are coming to Europe too.
I only hope we don’t get that IMO ugly shiny shiny yellow Blu-ray cases in Finland :/

I think the Platinum cases will simply be the plain old clear boxes in Europe, since only America’s allowed nice things.

Hopefully they won’t go the way Microsoft went with the original Xbox. They had the full price game, the ‘Classics’ version for a budget price and then the ‘Best of Classics’ which presumably were the games in the ‘Classics’ range that sold really well.
Stupid.

Really like the red cases and hope we see them in Europe too. The Platinum PS2 cases always looked cheap.

Also, the Greatest Hits version of Warhawk does NOT feature the headset, but shortly (as in within this week) the version that comes with the headset will be marked down to $49.99 (to maintain the proposed “$20 value”) for the headset. So it’ll be $30 w/o headset, $50 w/headset.

Blu-Ray cases aren’t red, they’re blue. End of story.

@Mehar: Nah, HD-DVD’s cases were brown. Which said a lot.
