[UPDATED] Resistance 2 goes viral with Starbuck?

July 7th, 2008 · 13 Comments

There’s a bunch of articles popping up in the gaming blogosphere regarding Project Abraham, the apparent viral campaign for Resistance 2, on the PS3. As far as I can see, the video that appears on the website seems to involve a patient who’s infected with the Chimera (the aliens of the series) virus and is slowly mutating, with armed guards standing by just in case the medical procedure to save their life goes horribly wrong.

Eagle-eyed gamers will have already noticed the logo on the mildly-terrifying blondie’s t-shirt is the same as you see while waiting for menus to load in the original Resistance: Fall of Man, with this logo presumably being that of the titular resistance. Oh yeah, and she’s Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica…

What the hell is going on?  Find out, after the jump.

Anyway, things appear to complicate a little in the viral video before everything blacks out and a Morse code tone plays out over the blackout, literally translating as ‘blackout’ itself. A visit to a page using this name reveals a photo of a bunch of smiling Army troops standing in the doorway of a cabin. However, there’s something hiding in the window to the left, and I’m willing to bet it’s a Chimera.

UPDATE: Some handy tips from the comments below and from a forums thread on the topic reveals a site titled GetAWarJob.com, with an ‘enlistment form’ (I’m guessing a mailing list for the game, which will probably send out screenshots under ‘Alien Sightings’ or ‘Invasion Locations’ to reveal Resistance 2’s various enemies and locations) and some pamphlets about the ‘European influenza’ making its way across the Atlantic. There’s even a toll-free recruitment number to call as long as you’re in the US, but non-American gamers can listen to this recording here.

What does this mean for Resistance 2? Will the Chimera strike from the inside and move out, attacking the US Army forces by controlling the very soldiers who they’re supposed to be fighting? Who knows..either way, there’ll be more to come from this viral campaign in the near future, so we may as well keep our eyes peeled. I’ve put myself on the Get A War Job mailing list so as more updates come through on Resistance 2’s own alternative reality game, I’ll keep you all posted!

Found another site related to Resistance 2 which has a phone number on, not tried calling it as it’s a US number only… http://getawarjob.com/ and click on the business card.

I followed the link to the blackout site, and toyed around with the photo for a bit.
      Nothing.
But, I DID check the source code on it, and I found a snippet saying:

      Think it could mean something?
      Or just something meaningless?

      Sorry, it said:
      !–url’s used in the movie–
      !–text used in the movie–
      The comment thing blocked it.
Must have been the things used.

if you notice, when the soldier goes to push her away, the resistance patch is on the side of his arm aswell.

the phone number brings you to a recorded message that basically reapeats whats in the brochure

There’s a face in the wood on the blackout site. Look at the stain on the wood, under it, if you look carefully, there seems to be a face. I took a screen shot and played around with it in Photoshop, its hard to get the face to fully appear, but its definitely there.

It looks like the wood stain is a helmet, or some goggles?

Hmmm, let’s see here. The first game was over-hyped and under-delivered. I may not be a fortune teller but I’d be willing to bet a hefty sum that the second one is heading down the exact same path.

I dunno Yousty, 60 player online does sound pretty awesome..

Well if you over expose the photo from the blackout site it does make it clearer, and it almost looks like a locust from GoW xD

      @yousty

i disagree with you on the under delivered part
