MotorStorm 2 goes on tour in the UK

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe might suck at promoting the PS3 on TV but when it comes to Internet promotion they do an OK job. The indie music road trip series Movement has been eagerly promoted on Myspace, featuring videos straight from the content available on the PS3 and PSP download stores as well as links to the pages of the various bands of the series, some of which are pretty good. Even more incredibly of all for content from Sony in Europe, the Movement Myspace has been localised several other languages at the same time, meaning that everybody gets the content at once, with no wait. Color me genuinely surprised.

Anyway, enough of that, as MotorStorm’s following Movement into the world of Web 2.0 and beyond.

Ever trying to interface with the PlayStation community in Europe (well, that’s a lie, as the job’s mostly been left to ThreeSpeech which is run by an external PR company) Sony have launched a MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Myspace at myspace.com/motorstormuk and along with it have announced the Pacific Rift Tour. The tour will involve “one monster truck, its veteran driver and his hot female entourage” (make of that what you will) but essentially there’s a great big tour of England lined up, with Scotland and Wales ignored in the same way that Sony generally ignores Europe as a whole.

Not only are there monster truck shows heading across the country, PS3s loaded with pre-release copies of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift allowing you to play the game before it launches in October. If you’re near any of these locations, I’d hit them up so you can see whether or not it’s as good as the pre-rendered hype makes it out to be. Locations and dates follow:

  • 2nd-3rd August – London: Outside the O2 Red Bull Air Race
  • 8th-9th August – Watergate Bay: Rip Curl Unleashed music festival
  • 15th-17th August – Staffordshire: Alton Towers amusement park
  • 22nd-24th August – Leeds: Leeds music festival
  • 30th-31st August – Manchester: Trafford Centre
  • 6th-7th September – Birmingham: Birmingham Bullring
  • 13th-14th September – Greenhithe: Bluewater

There you go then: crossing the entirety of England (sort of) with a monster truck, here comes MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Of course, my thanks must go to Sony for forgetting that Scotland exists, and the handful of Welsh Sarcastic Gamers will be feeling the same (and of course the Irish, but that is an entirely different island so y’know..kinda hard to drive a monster truck through the sea).

Still, all you English tea-sipping scone-munching types are encouraged to head to wherever is nearest to you and play the hell out of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (or as much as the demo booth attendees will let you before telling you to clear off) and let everyone know what it’s like. And please don’t rub it in.
