Fresh from the Microsoft E3 conference (since I’ve got a video going now rather than relying on liveblogging) comes news of more “borrowing” of ideas, since Microsoft have only just announced they’re adding Mi-sorry, avatars to the next edition of the Xbox 360 system software. This time, we’ve got crazy flailing in front of a camera that’s then inserted into the game..where’s that come from?
A tad more after the jump.
You’re In The Movies puts you in the shoes of some random budget movie star and requis you to literally act out whatever’s being done in the film. Ergo, if your character’s meant to run, you better get running, flailing, dancing, whatever the scene in the film demands you do.
Essentially, imagine the EyeToy technology from about four or five years ago, recently regulated to the budget corner of the PlayStation Store, re-instated by a publisher who’s finally figured they could be onto “the next big thing. What are you doing, Microsoft? As much as I’d love to watch you burn as you try to resurrect an idea that died for a good reason, even I have to step in and ask what’s going on. Is the Xbox 360 really that short on ideas that you need to throw in what is essentially EyeToy support?
As if it couldn’t get worse, Microsoft have also followed Sony into the casual market a little more, with the announcement of their answer to Singstar (some six years later) titled LIPS. Welsh singer Duffy (this is where half of Sarcastic Gamer exclaims “what’s Welsh mean?!”) took to the stage to perform one of her own songs, notching up a respectable score, unsurprisingly. The microphone that comes with LIPS will even try to take on the Wiimote and the SIXAXIS for some reason or another, because it comes equipped with a motion sensor, presumably for flailing the mic around as you sing and being rewarded extra for doing so.
In fact, LIPS is trying something remarkably new..you can sing along to your own music collection. You can plug in your music player and sing along to your own tracks. How it’s gonna work I dunno, but it looks interesting to say the least.
Hmm…it looks good, I suppose. But Microsoft, come on! Save for LIPS, where’s the originality?!

ya, alot of it isnt new stuff, and it REALLY pissed me off when he said, “and heres rockband 2 and its available exlusivly for the xbox 360.” I THINK NOT!
It’s a timed exclusive, the 360 will receive it in September and the PS3 and other formats a few months later.
To quote Kotaku: Mii60
I didn’t watch the video, only the liveblog, but it seemed like a carwreck up until the final announcement.
Every company “copies” each other.
I kind of like the idea of Avatars, although I probably won’t use it too much. I’m looking forward to the new interface though.
Hey yamster, get over yourself you moron. Who puts up an article and then post to the comment section of it. What a looser. Anyway, PSN = copy of XBL, Trophies = copy of achievements, sixais = copy of wiimote, I can go on an on. Companys copy from each other all the time. Stop being an a$$hole and shutup about it. I am so getting so sick of you fanboy jerks from sarcastic gamer.
You guys are starting to make me sick.
